The Best Discord Bots For Music In 2019

Discord isn’t a music service but if you run a server and cannot cope with silences then adding background music can keep things alive. You can add a music bot in the same way you add other utility bots and can have it play music all the time or at specific times depending on your needs. If you’re looking to add more life to your server, this page will link to what I think are the best Discord bots for music in 2019.

Gaming

Bots come and go and what is insanely popular today could have disappeared tomorrow. The Discord music bots I list here are all available right now and offer the ability to add a new lease of life to any server.

The best Discord bots for music

Each of these Discord bots can play music from multiple sources, will be free to use and will integrate seamlessly into your server. All are available at the time of writing and are popular enough that they should remain available for the longest time.

Groovy

Groovy is a very popular music bot that is listed on the Discord Bot List. It supports Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud and other services. It has a free version and a premium version. The free bot has everything you need to add music to your server while the premium adds some tricks you may like. You will obviously need a Spotify or SoundCloud subscription to make those services work but that’s the same for all these music bots.

Spotify

Spotify has its own Discord bot which works fine if you only want to play music from a single source. You will need a subscription to Spotify to play bit the bot itself is free to use. I don’t think it’s an official bot but it works anyway so who cares? The bot is fairly intelligent and has a few commands built in. Playback is seamless though which is the important thing.

Hydra

Hydra is a very intelligent music bot for Discord that just works. You can play from YouTube or create your own playlist and have it broadcast on your server. The bot includes a bunch of commands you can use to control it and it works with simple menus to keep it running or tuned to your liking. Hydra has been around for ages which indicates just how popular it is!

FredBoat

FredBoat is one of the easiest Discord music bots to use. Simply invite it and it can begin playing right away. It can be configured to play from your own playlist, from YouTube, SoundCloud, Twitch and Vimeo among others and works so well it seems almost intelligent. Fredboat is another bot that has been around for ages and will likely be around for a long time yet.

dabBot

dabBot is a cool little music bot that can play from YouTube, SoundCloud, Twitch, internet radio stations, Discord.FM and other sources on your server. It has access to hundreds of internet radio stations and can play Twitch too. It’s a neat bot with some useful commands, simple setup and configuration and everything you need to liven up your server.

Vexera

Vexera isn’t listed on the Discord bot list but is accessible from its own website. It can play from YouTube, SoundCloud, Twitch, Vimeo, Mixer, internet radio via HTTP and Spotify. It even has the ability to find lyrics to tracks if that’s your thing. It’s a very polished app that has a free and a premium version that adds a few neat features.

Rhythm

The Rhythm music bot used to be at the top of its game and was one of the top Discord bots around. It’s reputation is no longer the best with rumors of lack of development and poor support bringing it down. Whether that’s true or not is up for debate but it is still available and apparently supporting over 5 million Discord servers. Check it out if you like.

Adding a Discord music bot to your server

If you like the look of any of these music bots, you can add them in exactly the same way you add any bot. You will need to be the server owner or administrator to do it.

  1. Log into the server you want to add the bot to.
  2. Visit one of the links above and select Invite or Add to Discord.
  3. Select Authorize when you see the prompt and complete the Captcha if it appears.
  4. Configure your bot to your requirements, add your music service subscription details if relevant and let it play.
