Running And Managing Apps On Android

Apps on Android are like programs on a PC.
Icons for the most frequently used Apps are normally placed on your home screen.
To see all of your installed Apps, touch All Apps icon 
in the Favourites tray on any Home screen.
To run an App simply press the App icon and the App starts.
What most people find confusing at first is there is no obvious way of closing or stopping an App as there is with a PC.
Android just like your PC supports multitasking, which means, that it can run many Apps at the same time.
You could, for example, have Google chrome browser open and the Gmail App open at the same time.
To open a new App go to the home screen by clicking the home icon
If the App you want is on the home screen then to run it you simply press the App icon,if not, then click the All Apps icon to locate it.
To switch between Apps click the recent Apps icon 
to get a list of all running Apps.
From the Apps list you can switch Apps by pressing on it and you can close an App by pressing it and dragging to the left or right.
Downloading and Installing New Apps
Most of the Apps you install will be installed from the Google Play store, but depending on your device you may find other App store manager App icons on your device.
Only install Apps from a trusted App store!
To download and install an App from the Google Play store you will need a Google account (even for free Apps).
Click the Google Play store icon 
usually located in your favourites tray.
This opens the play store where you click on Apps and use the search feature to locate your App
Once you have located your App click on the icon and you should get an install prompt.
You will get a permission screen telling you what permissions the App needs to work. You need to accept them or the App will not install.
When you click Accept the App will download and install. You see a download progress indicator and a final screen once downloaded.
The final screen for this App lets me open the App or uninstall it.
I don’t need to do either as the App will have created an icon in the Apps folder.
Deleting Apps
To delete an App go to Settings by clicking the Settings icon in the Apps folder.
Go to Apps and press
You will get a list of all of the APps installed on your device.
Slide down until you locate the App you want to remove ( battery in this example).
Press on the App icon and a screen will open showing you information about the App, but it also has an uninstall button.
Press the uninstall button
Press Ok to confirm the uninstall and the App will be removed.

Insufficient Storage Space Error on install
On tablets/phones with limited memory you will get this message “insufficient storage available” even though their appears to be plenty.
The problem seems to be that the device doesn’t have enough RAM to download the install files and not that it doesn’t have space on the hard drive.
To get mine to work I had to free up Ram by removing unnecessary Widgets that were not really being used.

Default Apps
If you have several Apps that do the same thing. For example you can have several apps that can open a .pdf document then you may be prompted to set the App as the default App each time you use it.
If you have already made an App the default App for a particular task you can remove that association by going to Settings>Apps> App and pressing the clear defaults button.
