Quick And Easy Steps To Insert Links In Google Sheets
Last Updated: October 2, 2021
If you’re familiar with hyperlinks in Google Docs and Google Slides, that’s basically how you add or insert links in Google Sheets too.
Google Sheets
Adding links can make everything easier for you; instead of opening another tab in your browser and searching for the specific article or site you want to see, you can skip this step by clicking the inserted link on your spreadsheet.
When you have a lot of sites or links you need as references, they become easily accessible when you keep them in a single sheet. Whether it’s just a link to another cell, another spreadsheet, or a URL, you can hyperlink them to texts and other elements in your Google Sheets.
This guide will quickly teach you how to add links in just a few steps.
1. Go to the Web browser of Google Sheets and log in your account.
Make sure that you are on the Google Sheets website and that logged in to your account. Thoroughly look at all your existing spreadsheets and choose the one you wish to edit.
2. Select a cell then click “Insert” in the menu bar.
Place the cursor to the cell you want to insert a link into, then click the “Insert” button in the menu bar. Clicking this would show a drop-down menu with all the options available.

3. Click the “Insert Link” option from the drop-down menu.
Google Sheets has divided the drop-down menu into six different sections, and you have to look at the second to the last section, where they included the “Insert Link” option. Click that button, and a dialog box will open.

4. Enter the text that you want to appear on the cell.
There is a provided space in the dialog box where you must enter the exact text that will appear in the selected cell. You can choose where this text should be linked: in a URL, in a specific cell, or on another sheet in the same file.

Link to a URL or Website
With the URL option selected, all you need to do is paste the URL link of the website you want to be redirected to when you click on the text you entered.

Link to Specific Cells
Suppose you want to link some text to another cell on the same sheet. In this case, you need to do three things.
First, click the “Sheets and Named ranges” button at the bottom of the pop-up window.

Second, click the “Select a range of cells to link” option.

Lastly, type the cell addresses of the cells you want to include or select them directly from the sheet.

Link to Another Sheet In the Same Spreadsheet
If you’ve chosen to link the text to another sheet from the same spreadsheet, click the “Sheets and Named ranges” button, then select what specific sheet you would like to link the text into.

5. Click the “Apply” button.
If you link a text to a URL or Website, you need to click the “Apply” button beside the link. However, if you’ve decided to use the other two options, you won’t need to click “Apply” because selecting a cell or sheet to link it to will automatically save the work.

Final Thoughts
When moving cells containing images, it’s essential to be careful because they will move along with the data together in that row. You can’t move only a single cell; it has to be the whole thing. On the other hand, images over cells are much easier to move or edit since you only have to pin the image to a specific corner of the cell.
Overall, you can add as many images to a single cell as you need it—you simply have to follow and repeat the same process indicated in this guide.
