What is Honey?

Honey is an item that can be used to attract wild Pokémon when it is used in tall grass, caves, or on special Honey trees. It’s a pretty useful item that can cause you to encounter wild Pokémon without having to move. While you’ll usually get the run of the mill Pokémon that you can encounter simply by walking around, you may get certain rare Pokémon that can only be encountered through this method.

Where can you get Honey?

Honey is a pretty easy item to acquire. Early on in the game, you’ll come across a small town called Floaroma Town which is just north of Jubilife City. This is a small town that is filled with flowers.

Here, you’ll also find the entrance to Floaroma Meadow where you can find a man selling Honey for 100 Pokémon Dollars each and 1,000 Pokémon Dollars for 10.

If you also have the Pokémon Combee with the ability Honey Gather in your team, it will actively yield you jars of Honey as you travel.

What Pokémon can you catch using Honey Trees?

There are plenty of Pokémon you can catch using Honey Trees. For some of them, this is the only way to encounter them. There are three categories the Pokémon encounter rate for Honey Trees fall under: Normal, Rare, and Very Rare. Normal encounters trigger 70% of the time, Rare encounters 20%, and Very Rare encounters 1%. It’s also worth mentioning that there’s also a chance that despite using a Honey Tree, you’ll get no encounter at all.

Below, we’ve listed all the possible Pokémon you can encounter at each rarity and the percentage of it appearing.

  • Wurmple – 40%

Where can you find Honey trees?

There are a total of 21 Honey Trees in the Sinnoh region. A Honey Tree has a very distinct appearance. While most Trees are colored Green, Honey Trees are colored  Brown.

If you interact with these trees, you’ll be prompted with a question asking if you want to slather the tree’s bark with Honey.

You can actually find these spots when you pull out your Town Map. While there, press the + button to see the Location Info. Then, press R to toggle the locations of unslathered Honey Trees. Additionally, you can also see ripe Berry locations, Slathered Honey Trees, and Honey Trees that contain wild Pokémon.

Useful Tips

  1. It takes 6 hours of real world time before a Honey Tree will contain a wild Pokémon. Unfortunately, you can’t adjust the time on your Nintendo Switch to reflect a time skip in the game.
  2. It’s best to slather all 21 Honey Trees in the game at the same time so that you could increase your chances of encountering rare Pokémon.
