Last Updated: September 13, 2020
Do you want some more screen space? The screen you get on your Chromebook isn’t enough? Then, you should try connecting it to any other display like a monitor for example. You can mirror your Chromebook screen across many displays.
You can use these displays as a separate desktop. This is pretty handy. Not only do you get a lot more space, but you also get to screen whatever you want on the external display. Here, we will show you how to do it.
How to Connect the Chromebook to a Monitor
To connect the Chromebook to a monitor, you will need to physically connect it. To do that, you should use a specific cable.
Most Chromebooks, if not all, have an HDMI port. Others have CGA, DVI, or Display Port. This is what you will be using to connect to any display you have at home. Now, depending on the port you have, you will need a different adapter cable for this.
If you want to know which cable you can use, check the instruction manual you get with purchasing your Chromebook. All the information should be there. Once you find it, just follow these steps.
Find the input and the output you are going to use. Connect the ports to the appropriate adapter. For example, you can connect the DisplayPort to your HDMI port. Plug the cable into the Chromebook and then into the monitor.
Now, for the screen to pop up on the second monitor, you will need to connect both of these devices. To do that. Go to the bottom right corner of the screen on your Chromebook. Click on the time or your picture.
Go to the cog icon. This is the “Settings” menu.
From the “Settings” menu open “Device”. Then, click on “Displays”.
Choose “Mirror Internal Display”. Set the resolution, orientation, and alignment if necessary, and start mirroring. Now, both of these screens will be connected. You can use the Chromebook as a second monitor if you’d want.
That’s it! Now you’ve connected the Chromebook to a different display device. If you want to adjust the screen, you can toggle any option you want from the “Settings” menu on your Chromebook. Go to “Internal Display”, in “Device”.
Here, you can rotate the screen, make the icons bigger or smaller. You can even change the resolution on your monitors.
Now, different Chromebooks may need one or more adapters. For example, let’s say the Chromebook you are using has a micro HDMI port. If you want to connect it to an older display device, you will need a VGA connection.
You can connect the Chromebook to an older device, let’s say a projector, but, you should avoid it. Try to rely on newer devices if you want this to work.
If you want to use the Chromebook as a second monitor, you can do it. Just, connect it to any display device you have at home and mirror your screen. Now that you know how to do it, go ahead and give it a try.
