How To Use Chat On Discord Voice Channels

In one of Discord’s recent updates, the app added a new feature on voice channels across servers on the app. They added the option to use chat on voice channels so that users don’t have to switch between text and voice channels within a server.

Server members can view and access the chat on a voice channel before joining or during a call. By default, every member can share and send messages just like a normal text channel.

How to use the chat option on your voice channels on Discord

If you want to share messages and photos while talking with your friends on Discord, there’s no need to go into one of your text channels. You can use the chat feature on voice channels before joining or during a call.

You can use the text feature on voice channels, whether you’re using the Discord app on your phone or desktop. Follow our tutorials below, and we’ll show you how to do so.

On your phone:

  1. Open the Discord app on your device and sign in to your account.
  2. Go to one of your servers and tap one of its voice channels.

  3. Tap the chat icon on the top right corner of the page before joining the channel.

You can also access the text option while participating on a voice channel. You can find the chat icon on the top of your screen after joining the channel.

On your computer:

  1. Open the Discord desktop app and sign in to your account.
  2. Go to the server where you want to use the text option on a voice channel.
  3. Hover to one of the voice channels and select the “Open Chat” icon.

Alternatively, you can click the bubble chat icon on the upper right side of the voice channel interface.
