Do you want to help your moderators filter out certain words or phrases from your channel’s chat feed? If so, you can enable the AutoMod feature on your Creator Dashboard on Twitch. In our guide below, we’ll show you how to manage your moderation settings to enable this option on your channel.
Tutorial
In Twitch, viewers can use the chat feature to interact with other people or the broadcaster of the channel they’re watching. As a broadcaster, you can appoint moderators to filter the chat feed for inappropriate words and messages from the viewers.
To make your moderators’ jobs much easier, you can use the AutoMod function on the app. With the help of this feature, the app can hold inappropriate messages automatically for the moderators to review.
When AutoMod holds a message, your moderators can decide whether to allow the message to appear in the chat or not. As such, they’ll have an easier job of filtering out trolls from the chat.
With that in mind, here’s our guide on how to enable AutoMod on Twitch.
How to use the AutoMod feature on Twitch
If you want to improve the experience of your moderators on Twitch, you can use the AutoMod option on your channel. This feature uses machine learning and algorithms to temporarily hold specific messages from the chat so that your moderators can review them much easier.
You can enable the AutoMod feature on your Creator Dashboard on the Twitch web app. Follow our quick tutorial below to learn how.

- Under the AutoMod Controls section, select the AutoMod Rulesets option.
- Click the “Turn On AutoMod” button.

A higher level of moderation results in stricter filtering of certain words, such as the ones that come or imply hostility, discrimination, slurs, profanity, and sexual content. For example, an AutoMod of level four uses maximum filters on all kinds of risky messages.
On the other hand, you can customize how your settings and adjust your filters for each AutoMod category. Aside from that, you can also ban words and phrases under the AutoMod controls.
After updating your AutoMod settings, we recommend that you discuss the changes with your channel moderators. In this way, they’ll know what to do when they encounter messages that need their approval.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to enable AutoMod, your moderators will have an easier time managing and filtering messages sent on your channel’s chat feed. Whether you use one of the moderation levels or set a custom filter, it’s all up to you.
