How To Unlock Your Camera In League Of Legends

Are you overwhelmed by the chaos whenever there’s a team fight in League of Legends? Can’t seem to figure out how to hold your camera in place? We’re here to help you out. In this guide, we’ll show you how you can unlock and lock your camera in place on League of Legends.

Why Lock/Unlock Your Camera?

League of Legends is a game that requires you to make the most of all the visual information you can see in order to succeed. That includes things like seeing your opponent’s items, minion kills, K/D/A, jungle spawn timers, pings, etc. One of the most important things you need to keep an eye on is where your opponents are. Whatever lane you’re playing, you need to be aware of your opponent’s at all times. This is where unlocking the camera comes in. If you unlock your camera, you’ll be free to look around and spot where your opponents are. It’s not just for finding opponents though, you’ll also get to keep an eye on your teammates and see which of them need help or are coming to you for help. In fact, most pro players would rather have their camera unlocked so that they can see situations everywhere on the map.

Now, just because having your camera unlocked can put you at an advantage, it doesn’t mean that you never have to lock your camera onto your champion. Locking your camera prevents it from drifting away causing you to misclick. This is proving to be helpful especially in skirmishes or team fights.

Having camera settings that you’re comfortable with will make the game easier and will actually put you in a good position to win your matches.

How Do You Unlock the Camera?

If you are a new player, the camera is locked by default. This is to help new players focus on themselves and their micromechanics before moving on to understanding the game at macro levels. Once you are in the game, unlocking the camera is pretty simple. First, you need to look for the minimap and you’ll find a small camera icon on its left side.

If there’s a line going through the camera, that’s an indicator that the camera is locked and fixed on your champion.

If you were to click it, you’ll notice that the line in the middle of the icon is gone.

Now, you can look around freely anywhere on the map.

Alternatively, you can click the “Y” button on your keyboard to toggle the camera lock. This is the default key for the command but you can change it through the options. To do this, press the “Esc” key, and under the “Hotkeys” section look for the “Camera Control” tab.

You’ll find all sorts of camera control options in there so feel free to adjust them to whatever works for you.

One last thing, whenever you move your camera while it’s unlocked, you can just press the “Spacebar” to center the camera back to your champion. This key can also be changed under the Camera Control options.

So there you have it! League of Legends gives its players a lot of room in terms of customizability. If you’re just starting out, don’t hesitate to play around with the settings to figure out how you want to play the game. See you on the Rift!
