How To Unlock The Sewers In Stardew Valley

Have you ever wondered what’s inside the mysterious sewer entrance in Stardew Valley? If you have, you’re in luck. In this guide, we’ll show you everything you need to do to access this special area.

Gaming

There are a lot of interesting places you can explore in Stardew Valley. There’s the Skull Cavern, there’s the Secret Woods, there’s the Calico Desert. But one of the more unique areas you can visit is the Sewers.

What’s in The Sewers?

So you may be wondering, what’s so interesting about the Sewers? I mean isn’t it just the sewage area of Pelican Town? Well yes, but it’s more than that. There’s a reason why this area can only be unlocked when you’re a bit further in the game. Let’s take a look at what’s inside the Sewers.

Fishing Area

Wait, you can fish in the Sewers? That’s gross! Yeah it’s gross but there’s something special lurking beneath these pools of green ooze. The water in the Sewers is home to one of the five legendary fishes you can catch in the game. It’s the only area where you can catch the Mutant Carp. Apart from that, you can also fish for Carps, Green Algae, White Algae, and if you’re unlucky, Trash.

Krobus

One of the best characters in Stardew Valley is Krobus, a shadow person. He is considered a monster in the game but if you get to know him, he’s actually a really nice guy. He’s a bit shy and he’s the only friendly monster you’ll encounter in Stardew Valley. He has a shop set up in the Sewers and the best part about it is that it’s open 24/7. Even on festival days. Talk about being a hard worker.

In his shop, you can get a variety of rare items like a Void Egg. Krobus also sells one of the rarest items in the game, a Stardrop, which permanently increases your maximum energy by 34 points. There are only 7 Stardrops in the entire game and you can buy one (just one) from Krobus for 20,000g.

You can also have Krobus as your roommate. If you give him the Void Ghost Pendant, you can ask him to move into your house. You have to be single though, but don’t worry you won’t be married to Krobus and have weird shadow babies. He’ll just live with you. He is also the only character in the game who loves Void Mayonnaise. So if you have a couple of those lying around, you should go ahead and give all of them to Krobus. He deserves it.

Mutant Bug Lair

Mutant Bug Lair sounds like the place where an evil king keeps all his prisoners at. In Stardew Valley, it isn’t quite like that. It is filled with swarms of Bugs though, so watch out for that. It’s useful if you want to farm Bug Meat which you can use to craft Bait.

You can’t access this area until you’ve begun the Dark Talisman Quest. As the name implies, you’ll get the Dark Talisman inside the Mutant Bug Lair. Completing the quest will grant you access to the Witch’s Swamp, another interesting place you can visit.

Apart from these, the Mutant Bug Lair is also the only place where you can catch a unique fish called the Slimejack. You have to be careful when fishing in this area, because the bugs will attack you while doing so. Too bad they don’t sell any bug repellent in Stardew Valley.

Statue of Uncertainty

Have you ever felt uncertain about the professions you chose in the game? The Statue of Uncertainty can help you with your troubles. For a measly offering of 10,000g, this statue will allow you to change your profession to whatever you desire. It’s located inside the Sewers so make sure to check it out if you want to get the bonuses from other professions.

How Do You Unlock the Sewers?

Now that we’ve taken a peek at what’s waiting for you inside the Sewers, we bet you’re pretty excited to get in. It’s not particularly hard to unlock this area, but it will take some time. The only thing you need to do is to donate at least 60 items to the museum. The museum only accepts artifacts and minerals.

For the most part, you can get a lot of these items simply by mining at the Mines, located in the northeast area of the map. While mining, you will also encounter Geodes which you can take to Clint the Blacksmith. He’ll crack open these geodes for you and it may contain an item that you can donate to the museum.

You can also use your Hoe to dig at artifact spots. These spots are hard to miss since they look like a patch of land with worms coming out of it.

Once you’ve met this requirement, Gunther will visit you at home and give you the Rusty Key.

Now that you have the key, just go to any of the two entrances to the Sewers to open them. One is at the southernmost part of the map. And the other is in town near the graveyard.
