How To Unlock The Greenhouse In Stardew Valley

Bummed about not being able to plant and harvest crops during winter? Did you know that there’s actually a way for you to grow crops even if they aren’t in season? In this guide, we’ll show you everything you need to know to unlock the Greenhouse in Stardew Valley.

Gaming

Stardew Valley is all about growing crops. While, yes there are other things you can do in the game besides raising or harvesting crops, it’s what you’ll primarily be doing most of the time. You don’t willingly go into a farming simulator and not expect to do any farming, right? With that said, one of the most important farm buildings you’ll need is the Greenhouse.

What is the Greenhouse?

The Greenhouse is a farm building that allows you to grow crops and fruit trees regardless of the season. This means that crops that will only grow in Spring can grow in Summer if planted in the Greenhouse. Not only that, the crops inside the Greenhouse will be protected from all sorts of things that can damage it like Crows or Lightning.

This farm building is already present in your farm when you first move in. However, it is broken and dilapidated; basically, unusable. You need to complete certain requirements before your Greenhouse will be functional again. To restore the Greenhouse, you have two options. One is through the Community Center, while the other is through the Joja Community Development Form.

Community Center Pantry Bundles

The Community Center has a lot of bundles that need to be completed in exchange for certain items or upgrades. One of these bundles is the Pantry Bundles, located in the Pantry area of the Community Center. The Pantry will appear as soon as you complete one bundle beforehand.

You’ll need to gather a LOT of items before you can have your Greenhouse repaired. It may seem like a troubling amount of work, but don’t worry, it’s all worth it. There are six separate bundles you need to complete before you complete the overall Pantry Bundle. These are the Spring Crops Bundle, Summer Crops Bundle, Fall Crops Bundle, Quality Crops Bundle, Animal Bundle, and Artisan Bundle. Let’s take a closer look at each of them.

Spring Crops Bundle

This is a bundle composed of crops that only grow during the Spring season. Completing this bundle will get you a reward of (20) Speed-Gro. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Parsnip
  • Green Bean
  • Cauliflower
  • Potato

The seeds for these crops can easily be purchased at Pierre’s General Store during Spring.

Summer Crops Bundle

This bundle is exactly like the Spring Crops Bundle, except with crops grown during the Summer season. By completing this bundle, you’ll be rewarded with (1) Quality Sprinkler. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Tomato
  • Hot Pepper
  • Blueberry
  • Melon

These seeds can also be purchased from the General Store during Summer.

Fall Crops Bundle

Like the two bundles before it, this bundle can be completed using crops grown during the Fall season. Completing the bundle and you’ll be rewarded with (1) Bee House. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Corn
  • Eggplant
  • Pumpkin
  • Yam

All the seeds for these crops can be bought from the General Store during Fall but you can actually buy and grow Corn starting in Summer. Yams can also be dropped by Duggies on floors 6-29 of the Mines.

Quality Crops Bundle

This bundle is a little harder to complete than the previous ones. It requires you to get 5 gold quality crops from each of the last three seasons. The best way to obtain gold star crops early on is by using Fertilizers. The better the fertilizer, the higher the chance for you to get a gold quality crop. Fortunately though, you only need at least three sets of these crops to complete the bundle. By completing this bundle, you’ll get (1) Preserves Jar. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • (5) Parsnip
  • (5) Melon
  • (5) Pumpkin
  • (5) Corn

All seeds for these crops can be bought at the General Store during their respective seasons.

Animal Bundle

Most of the things needed in this bundle come from your animals. So it goes without saying that you’ll need a Coop and a Barn. There are six items you can use but you’ll only need 5 of them to complete this bundle. By completing the bundle, you’ll get (1) Cheese Press. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Large Milk
  • Large Egg (Brown)
  • Large Egg
  • Large Goat Milk
  • Wool
  • Duck Egg

All Farm Animals can be purchased at Marnie’s Ranch. Caring for your animals everyday will increase your friendship with them and in turn will increase the sizes of the products they produce.

Artisan Bundle

This is the hardest bundle to finish out of all the bundles in the Pantry. There are 12 total items you can use on this bundle, but you’ll only need 6 to complete it. After completing this bundle you’ll get (1) Keg. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Truffle Oil
  • Cloth
  • Goat Cheese
  • Cheese
  • Honey
  • Jelly
  • Apple
  • Apricot
  • Orange
  • Peach
  • Pomegranate
  • Cherry

All the fruits here come from fruit trees while Jelly comes from placing a fruit or vegetable on a Preserves Jar. The other artisan goods each come from other tools. The Truffle Oil is made using an Oil Maker, Cloth is made using a Loom, both cheeses come from a Cheese Press, and Honey is produced by the Bee House.

Overall, these bundles will take a lot of time to complete. At the very least, you’ll need to at least do three seasons of work to finish everything so don’t go expecting to unlock the Greenhouse immediately. Still, completing the Pantry Bundles isn’t overly complicated, it’s pretty straightforward. Just gather the items and place them in the bundles. After you sleep that night, you’ll see a cutscene of the Junimos repairing the Greenhouse. It’ll be ready to go the morning after.

Joja Community Development Form

The other way to restore the Greenhouse is through the Joja Community Development Form. You have to first buy a Joja Membership from Morris for 5,000g. Then, the Community Center will be turned into a Joja Warehouse, where you can purchase town restoration projects individually, like the Bus, the Minecarts, and the Greenhouse. This may seem like an easier way of getting the Greenhouse but it’s gonna cost you. To fix the Greenhouse through the Joja Community Development Form, you’ll have to purchase it for 35,000g. Afterwards, you’ll see a cutscene of Joja construction workers fixing the Greenhouse. The next morning, it’ll be ready for use.

So there you have it! That’s everything you need to know about unlocking the Greenhouse in Stardew Valley. Be sure to check back with us again for more guides on your favorite games. Have fun!
