How To Type In Another Language In Gmail

Gmail is widely used for formal communication, particularly at school and work. Indeed, it’s an essential and helpful platform to connect with individuals professionally. However, misunderstandings may still be prone to arise, specifically when there’s a conflict between the language used by the communicators.

Thus, we might need to type in another language, especially if our work colleagues have a different first language. Fortunately, Gmail has a feature that allows you to type in another language. However, this feature is only available if you access Gmail through your browser.

If you’re not sure how to do it, below are the simple steps you can follow.

1. Open the web browser then go to Gmail.

To begin, open the computer browser and navigate to Gmail. Check to see if your account is logged in.

2. Tap the gear icon on the top-right side of the page.

If you’re already in the Gmail window, click the gear icon, or settings, in the top-right corner of the page, next to the multiple dots icon. This will bring up a drop-down menu on your screen.

3. Select “See all settings” from the drop-down menu.

You must click the “See all settings” button on the drop-down list to be directed to a page containing the advanced settings.

4. Click the “General” tab then go to the “Language” section.

Navigate to the “General” tab and then look for the “Language” section.

5. Tick the box next to “Enable input tools.”

Under the “Language” section, look for the option labeled “Enable input tools.” Check the box next to the option, and a pop-up window will appear on your screen.

6. Choose the languages with which you want to use input tools.

All available languages for use are listed in the pop-up window, so you have to choose the language you want to use input tools. Keep in mind that input tools are activated by turning them on on the top-left side of the pop-up window.

7. Click “OK” on the pop-up window.

If you are confident that you have already selected all of the languages you want to include, click the “OK” button to save and apply your changes to your account.

8. Open the inbox section.

Navigate to the inbox page and look for the input tools icon on the ribbon bar to check if you were successful.

9. Click the drop-down arrow next to the keyboard icon on the upper-right side of the page.

If you already saw the input tools represented by the keyboard symbol, click the drop-down arrow next to that icon, and a drop-down list with all the languages you included in the input tools will appear.

10. Select the language you prefer to use.

Finally, all you have to do is select your preferred language, and you’ll be able to use it.

Final Thoughts

Although Gmail has many features to offer its users, some might only be available on your browser or mobile app—typing in a different language, for instance. Nevertheless, maybe Google will add this attribute to the mobile app features soon!
