How To Turn Off Auto Renewal On Zoosk

Auto renewal is a common tactic of many apps and services. Marketed as helping us effectively manage access to our favorite apps or services, it is more about keeping a recurring payment going than helping users. Most dating apps have a premium subscription that uses recurring payments. It’s not evil and not necessarily a bad thing. As long as you know what you’re signing up for, you can turn off auto renewal on Zoosk or any app in just a few seconds.

Social Media

When working with dating apps, auto renewal does have benefits. If you lead a busy life, you can retain access to the premium features without having to worry about anything. The same for other apps, insurance, Netflix, Spotify and the many other app subscriptions we seem to accumulate over time. As long as you have money in your account, you get to use the apps.

Until you don’t want to use them anymore. Then you have to remember to unsubscribe or cancel the auto renewal.

Turn off auto renewal on Zoosk

Zoosk uses similar methods to other dating apps. You are charged a monthly fee and depending on whether you go for monthly, three monthly, six monthly or annually, you’re billed automatically at the end of each billing period. As mentioned, on one hand this works in your favor. On the other, it works entirely in the app’s favor.

Many of us suffer from inertia. Where we are carried along in the same pattern month after month. This is why so many people will sign up to gym membership, never go and wait months before canceling the payment. We get stuck in the routine, set it as a to-do and never get round to it. Many services count on this inertia to make a little extra cash without having to do anything to earn it.

Don’t do that with Zoosk as it costs a lot of money.

To turn off auto renewal on Zoosk, do this:

On a phone:

  1. Open Zoosk in your mobile browser and log in.
  2. Select the three line menu icon in the top left.
  3. Select the gear icon to access settings and select Subscription.
  4. Select Cancel Subscription and confirm.

On desktop:

  1. Log into Zoosk and select your avatar in the top right.
  2. Select Account Settings from the menu.
  3. Select Subscription and Cancel My Subscription.
  4. Confirm your choice.

Canceling subscriptions through iTunes

If you used iTunes to subscribe to Zoosk you will need to cancel the subscription there too. You should cancel it on Zoosk but also cancel it on iTunes too. Otherwise you may still be billed despite that cancelation.

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Select iTunes & App Store and log in.
  3. Select Account Settings and Subscriptions.
  4. Select Zoosk and select Cancel Subscription.

Remember, you need to cancel both on Zoosk and on iTunes to ensure you don’t continue being billed.

While there are no substantive reports that Zoosk behaves inappropriately, there are a number of former users who said they were still billed after canceling their subscription. It is worthwhile canceling the payment with PayPal or your credit card using the appropriate means. It will usually appear under ‘Recurring Payment’s or words to that effect within your bank, credit card or whatever payment method you use.

Pause your Zoosk account

If you’re having a time out or have found someone, you may also want to pause your Zoosk account as well as cancel auto renewal. Pausing removes your profile from view but keeps it in standby in case you need it again. It keeps your contacts, messages and anything else you shared so you can pick up where you left off if/when you need to.

This is especially useful if you are dating someone as the last thing you want to happen is still being seen on a dating app!

To pause your Zoosk account:

  1. Open the Zoosk app on your phone.
  2. Select the menu icon top left and select the gear icon for settings.
  3. Select Account and select to edit Account Status.
  4. Select Pause Account and confirm your choice.

You can also deactivate your account which also removes it from view. It doesn’t delete the account or any data though. Just select Deactivate instead of Pause Account in the steps above. There isn’t a great deal of difference between the two settings. Just make sure you have canceled your subscription first as Zoosk will still bill you even if you pause or deactivate your account.
