How To Transfer Ownership Of A Workspace In Airtable
Last Updated: February 21, 2022
Do you no longer wish to manage one of your workspaces in Airtable? Or do you want to leave it as the sole owner? In any case, you can transfer the ownership of your workspaces to one of its collaborators whenever you want. Check our quick guide below, and we’ll show you how.
Tutorial
In Airtable, users can create workspaces to handle their projects and collections online. When you create a new workspace on Airtable, the app assigns you as the owner automatically.
As the owner, you have full control over the workspace, including adding new bases, inviting new members, and deleting its contents. When you’re the sole owner of a workspace, you can’t leave it without transferring the ownership to another user.
Thankfully, Airtable allows multiple owners within a workspace. You can assign other collaborators to act as the owner on your behalf. Once there’s another user with the owner permission level, you can leave the workspace anytime you want.
Here’s our guide about transferring ownership of your workspace on Airtable.
How to transfer ownership of your Airtable workspace
If you no longer want to manage one of your workspaces in Airtable, you can transfer its ownership to one of the collaborators. After promoting one of the workspace members, you can leave the workspace or stay as a creator or collaborator.
You can make a collaborator as the owner of a workspace whether you’re using Airtable on your phone or computer. Follow our quick tutorial below, and we’ll show you how to do it from both devices.
On your computer:
- Open the Airtable web app and sign in to your account.
- Browse your workspaces and click the member icons on the one you want to manage.
- Check the collaborators and change the permission level of the person you want to promote to an owner.
- On the menu that appears on your screen, select the “Owner” option.
That’s how you promote one of your workspace collaborators to an owner on Airtable. After doing so, you can step down as one of the owners or leave the workspace in the future.
If you ever change your mind about leaving the workspace, you can ask one of the workspace owners to invite you back to join the workspace.
On the Airtable mobile app for Android:
- After opening the app, browse your workspaces and tap the Edit icon on the one you want to manage.
- Select the collaborators to view everyone that works within your workspace.
- Tap the edit icon beside the collaborator you want to promote to an owner.
- Set the permission level to “Owner.”
After promoting someone else as another owner, you have the option to leave the workspace without deleting its contents.
To wrap things up
Now that you know how to transfer ownership of a workspace on Airtable, you can go ahead and give the responsibility to one of your collaborators. After transferring the ownership, you can remove yourself from the workspace or change your permission level.
