How To Transfer Host Controls In Zoom

Do you want someone else to preside over the room you created on Zoom? Or are you the one tasked with creating a meeting for another host? In any case, you can transfer the host controls to another participant in the room. Follow our quick guide below, and we’ll show you the steps on doing so on the Zoom mobile, desktop, and web app.

Tutorial

In Zoom, anyone can host a room and invite other people to join their meeting. As the host, you have permission to manage the current participants and people who try to join.

If you find this role distracting while discussing topics during a meeting, you can add a co-host (for premium plans) or transfer the host controls. In this way, you can let another user manage the video conferencing room while you talk with the current participants.

Please note that the original host affects the duration of the meeting even after transferring the host controls. Free and Basic plan users have a meeting time limit of 40 minutes, while licensed users can use the room for an unlimited duration.

Without further ado, here’s our guide on how to transfer host controls on Zoom

How to change the host of a meeting in Zoom

If you’re the current host of a meeting on Zoom, you can pass the controls to other participants in the room. In this way, someone else can preside over the meeting and manage its members.

You can transfer the host controls whether you’re on a meeting on your computer or phone. With that in mind, here are our step-by-step tutorials to help you do so on both devices.

During meetings on the Zoom desktop or web app:

  1. During a meeting, click Participants at the bottom of the room.

  2. On the Participant section, hover on one of the meeting members and click More.

  3. On the menu that appears, click “Make Host.”

  4. Once the pop-up window shows up on your screen, click Yes to confirm your decision.

Once you transfer the host controls to another meeting participant, that person can manage everything within the room. The new host can remove members, mute them all, or end the meeting for all at any time.

As such, we recommend that you pass the host controls to someone you trust if you plan to continue staying at the meeting. On the other hand, you can assign someone as a host as you leave the meeting.

During meetings on the mobile app:

  1. Tap Participants on the options at the bottom of the meeting room. If you can’t see any options, tap your screen once to show the interface.

  2. Select the participant that you want to make as the host.

  3. On the menu that appears, tap “Make Host.”

  4. Tap Yes on the pop-up to confirm your decision.

Like we mentioned earlier, the duration of the meeting depends on the original host. If you’re on a Free or Basic plan, the meeting will only last for 40 minutes. When the video conference ends, you’ll need to create a new room and invite the participants again.

On the other hand, licensed users get to run meetings for an unlimited duration. In this way, the meeting will continue even if you transfer the host controls to another participant and leave.

Pass the host controls to another participant in Zoom

Now that you know how to change the host in Zoom, you can pass the responsibility of managing the meeting room to another participant. As such, you can leave the room any time without disrupting the discussion between the other members.
