How To Spotlight Someone On Zoom

Do you want to highlight someone during your meetings on Zoom? Do you want them to appear on the meeting window for every participant at the meeting? If so, you can use the spotlight option on the app. In our quick guide below, we’ll show you how to use the feature on both the Zoom desktop and Android app.

Tutorial

Zoom is one of the most popular video-conferencing apps out there. The app allows you to host meetings with multiple people as long as you have a connection to the internet.

By default, people appear on everyone’s screen during meetings when they speak. However, hosts and co-hosts can spotlight specific participants to display them on everyone’s meeting window at all times.

Here’s our guide about using the spotlight option on the Zoom desktop and mobile app.

How to use the spotlight feature on Zoom

If you want to make someone’s video feed appear on everyone’s screen during your meetings in Zoom, you can use the spotlight option on the app. With the help of this feature, you can highlight someone at all times, even when others are currently speaking.

You can spotlight your or someone else’s video feed whether you’re using Zoom on your phone or desktop. Follow our step-by-step tutorials below, and we’ll show you how to do it from both devices.

On the Zoom desktop app:

  1. After signing in to your account, host a meeting and invite people to join.
  2. Inside the meeting room, hover on one of the participants at the top of your screen and click the three dots icon on their video feed.

  3. On the menu that appears, select “Spotlight for everyone.”

That’s how you spotlight someone on the Zoom desktop app. You can spotlight up to nine participants and display them on everyone’s screen during the meeting.

Please note that you can only use the spotlight feature as a host or co-host of a meeting. If you can’t find the option to do so, ask the ones with permission for help.

On the Zoom mobile app:

  1. Host a meeting and invite people to join you.
  2. Tap the Participants option at the bottom of your screen.

  3. Tap on the one person you want to spotlight among the participants list.

  4. On the menu that appears, select “Spotlight Video.”

You can only use the spotlight option when there are at least three participants in your meeting. Also, you can only spotlight users with their video feed turned on.

Alternatively, you can pin other people’s video feed instead of spotlighting them. You can pin up to nine users on your screen, which are only visible on your end of the meeting.

To wrap it all up

Now that you know how to spotlight someone on Zoom, you can highlight their video feed for every participant at the meeting. Always remember that you can also use the feature on yourself during meetings you host.
