How To Spotlight Someone On Microsoft Teams

Do you want to highlight someone’s video feed for all the participants in your Microsoft Teams meeting? Do you want to pin them into the meeting room for everyone else to see? If that’s the case, you can use the spotlight option on the app. In our guide below, we’ll show you how to spotlight people at your Microsoft Teams meeting.

Tutorial

In Microsoft Teams, users can host meetings with other members of their team or organization. As such, you can discuss topics and ideas through the video conference aside from sharing them through channels and conversations.

During a meeting on the app, the host or organizer can spotlight up to seven participants to the screen. This feature pins the video feed of the individual on the meeting for everyone else to see.

In this way, the host can make sure that the active speakers are on everyone’s screen at all times. With that in mind, here’s our guide about using the spotlight feature on Teams.

How to pin someone’s video feed for everyone on Microsoft Teams

If you want to highlight a participant’s video feed for everyone in the meeting, you can use the Spotlight feature in Microsoft Teams. As the meeting organizer or presenter, you can choose up to seven video feeds to highlight for all the participants in the room.

You can use the Spotlight feature on Microsoft Teams whether you’re on your phone or computer. Follow our step-by-step tutorials below, and we’ll show you how to do it from both devices.

On your computer:

  1. Open the Teams desktop app and host a meeting within your organization.
  2. Once you’re inside the meeting room, click the Show participants icon at the top of the screen.

  3. Right-click on one of the participants, click Spotlight for everyone on the menu and confirm your decision once prompted.

Alternatively, you can right-click on one of the feeds on your screen and select the spotlight option from the menu. You can highlight up to seven video feeds from yourself or other participants in the meeting as long as you’re the presenter or organizer.

Please note that you can’t spotlight someone if you’re using the Large gallery or Together mode view. Also, video feeds won’t appear in the spotlight when you’re recording meetings on the app.

On the Teams app for Android:

  1. After signing in to your account, host a meeting and enter the room.
  2. Tap the participants icon at the top right corner of your screen. If you can’t see the icon, tap your screen once to make the options appear on your screen.

  3. Tap and hold on to one of the meeting participants and select the spotlight option once the menu appears on your screen.

On the other hand, you can tap and hold on to one of the video feed on your screen and select the spotlight option on the menu that shows up on the bottom of the screen.

To stop the spotlight feature, tap and hold on to the video feed or the person’s name on the participants section and select the Turn off spotlight option.

To wrap it all up

Now that you know how to use the spotlight feature on Teams, you can pin video feeds on meetings you host on the app. You can spotlight up to seven meeting participants, including yourself, at a time.
