How To Share Passwords On LastPass

Do you want to give someone access to your online account? Is the password stored on the LastPass app? If that’s the case, you can share your sign-in credentials with people straight from the LastPass vault. Follow our quick guide to learn how.

Tutorial

In LastPass, you can store sign-in credentials and different items in their secure vault. You can also generate secure passwords for your accounts from there.

With that in mind, there might be situations where you want to give someone access to one of your online accounts. Thankfully, you can share items from the LastPass vault directly.

Here’s our guide about sharing passwords from LastPass.

How to share a password from LastPass

If you want to give access to one of your accounts online to a trusted person, you can share your password from the LastPass vault. By getting your sign-in credentials, they can use your account to log in to an app or website.

You can share passwords from the LastPass vault whether you’re on your phone or computer. Check our tutorials below, and we’ll teach you how to do so.

On your computer:

  1. Visit the LastPass website and sign in to your account with your master password. Alternatively, click the LastPass browser extension and select the Vault option from the menu.
  2. Click Passwords on the sidebar.

  3. Hover over one of the items on the Passwords page and select the share icon.

  4. Enter the recipient’s email address on the pop-up window. You can choose whether to allow the viewing of your password or not.

  5. Click the Share button on the bottom right to confirm your decision.

When you update a password on LastPass, it won’t sync with the recipients of your shared item. You need to share a new version of the updated password with someone for them to access your account.

On your phone:

  1. Launch the LastPass mobile app and sign in to your account.
  2. Tap the three lines on the upper left and select Passwords from the menu.

  3. Tap one of the passwords you want to share.

  4. Tap the Share Item option on the menu that appears on your screen.

  5. Tap the Send verification option on the pop-up window.
  6. Check your email inbox for a message from LastPass and approve sharing of a password.
  7. Go back to the LastPass mobile app and tap the Verify option on the pop-up window.

After verifying your decision of sharing a password, you’ll receive a copy of your password on the clipboard. You can then paste your password on an email or messaging app to share it with someone you trust.

To wrap things up

Now that you know how to share passwords from the LastPass app, you can give someone access to your online accounts easily. If you generated passwords for your accounts and stored them on the password manager, you can use this feature to send a copy of your sign-in credentials.
