How To Send A Direct Private Message In Twitch
Last Updated: May 13, 2020
Twitch is a tailor-made platform for gamers and game-related content. Here you will find content about all sorts of games and the latest game news.
Millions of people around the world use Twitch either as views, streamers or in some cases, even both. When you enter into a stream, you will see a general chat where the people who are watching the stream can talk to each other. Most times, the general chat will be overcrowded with meaningless comments. Therefore, it will be next to impossible to communicate with someone through the general chat.
But don’t worry, there is a solution to this problem. Twitch allows its users to send private messages, or whispers as they are known in the platform. This is an excellent way to communicate with people, regardless if they are watching the same stream or not. You can even have a private chat with people that you don’t know. So, whispers are a great way to get to know new people, and meet new friends!
Enough of the chit chat; let’s get down to business.
Sending a Private Message to a Friend
First of all, log in to your Twitch account (NO WAY!). Then, click on your profile picture, which is located at the top right corner of the screen.
Head down on the opening profile options menu, and click where says “Friends”; It should be the fifth option from the top down.
You will be automatically transported into a room with all your friends. Of course, if you don’t have any, this room will be empty. Hover the mouse over your friend’s profile picture. As you do it, you will see three rectangles appearing, chose the one on the far right. Pssh! Is the one that says “Whisper”.
Upon clicking it, a new window will appear at the bottom right corner. You can type any message that you want inside it. If you wish, you can send emotes as a complement for the message.
You will see red ping notification every time that you have at least one unread whisper. All unread messages appear on the bottom right corner (yellow rectangle).
Whispering to a Total Stranger
If you feel like breaking your mother’s rule of not talking to strangers, just follow the following procedure.
To talk to someone that isn’t your friend, you must click on the user name. This will open a new window in which you will see the whisper option.
After clicking in, the same message window will appear on the screen. Type the message that you wish to send and that is all.
Whispering is a great way to talk with friends, even if they aren’t watching the same stream. If you don’t have any friends (So sad), you can make new ones by using the whispering tool. Keep in mind that you should not exchange any personal or sensitive information through the private message system.
