How to sell your Steam items for credits

If you’re looking to buy a new game on Steam but are short on funds, you can sell unused items on the Steam Marketplace. In this way, you don’t need to top-up Steam credits on your account.

You can sell items on the Steam Market whether you’re on your phone or computer. Check our tutorials below, and we’ll cover the steps for both devices.

On your computer:

1. Open the Steam desktop app and sign in to your account.
2. Hover over the Community option on the upper left side of the app and select “Market” from the menu.
   
   
3. Click the “Sell an Item” button on the upper right.
   
   
4. Select one of the items in your inventory and click the Sell button.
   
   
5. Enter the price you want for your item and agree to the Steam Subscriber Agreement.
   
   
6. Click the “OK, put it up for sale” button to confirm your decision.

Note: If you enabled the Steam Authenticator for your account, you’ll need to confirm your decision from the mobile app.

If you don’t have the Steam Authenticator for your account, the market will hold your item listing for 15 days. On the other hand, Steam users that have the Authenticator option enabled on the Steam mobile app can list items right away.

On your phone:

1. Launch the Steam mobile app and sign in to your account.
2. Tap the three lines on the bottom right of the app.
   
   
3. Tap Community and select Market from the menu.
   
   
4. Tap the “Sell an item” button on the Market page.
   
   
5. Select the item you want to sell.
6. Tap the Sell bottom at the bottom of the item window.
   
   
7. Set the price for the item and agree to the Steam Subscriber Agreement.
   
   
8. Tap “Ok, put it up for sale” to confirm your decision.

Once you add an item to your active listings on Steam, you won’t find it on your account inventory. When someone buys your item, you’ll receive the funds in your Steam wallet immediately.

When selling an item on Steam, take note of its average price. Items below the average price sell faster.
