How To Save Google Docs Files
Last Updated: September 17, 2021
All the documents you’ve created can easily be accessed in the list of all your existing files in Google Docs. Thus, you can simply open the Google Docs app on your phone or desktop and look for the file(s) you want to open.
However, it’s quite a hassle to always re-open Google Docs, look for the file you want to visit, open the document, and wait for it to load when what you can do as an alternative is simply save it to your device. There may be instances where internet connection isn’t available, making it difficult for you to view a Docs file online.
Saving a document on your device, may it be desktop or mobile, can help you check and review a certain document anytime and anywhere you want. You won’t have to worry about unstable connections or internet unavailability because when it’s already saved, you can easily view it offline!
Check this guide out and learn about the detailed process of saving a Docs file to both your computer and mobile device.
Saving a Google Doc to a Mobile Device
Although changes to your document will be saved automatically if you’re working in Google Docs, it’s still a good idea to save it to your phone so that you can easily access it anytime you’ll need it.
1. Open the Google Docs application on your mobile phone and choose a particular document.
To begin, launch the Google Docs app on your mobile device, and then select or create a document that you want to save to your phone.
2. Click the three dots on the upper-right of your screen.
If you’ve already opened the document, you’ll notice a three-dot menu button in the upper right corner of your screen. Simply click it.
3. Select the “Share & Export” option.
Now after you’re finished with the document, you can see the different ways to share or save your document by clicking the menu options and selecting “Share & Export”.
4. From the share and export menu, click “Send a copy”.
When you click the “Send a copy” button, you will be able to save this document but still has an option to change the format of your document.
5. Choose a format then select “OK” to apply the changes.
Decide whether you want your document to be saved as a PDF or Word format. Click on the option of your choice and save it by clicking the “OK” button.
6. Select the option “Save to Files” to save it to your phone.
You will be given several options for transporting or saving your document, but if you want it to be accessible at any time and from any location, the best option is to save your files on your mobile phone. By choosing the “Save to Files” option, it will be transferred and located in the Files application of your phone.
However, note that this specific step only works in iOS, this may not be the case for downloading documents on an Android mobile.
Saving a Google Doc using Computer
If you’re not working on any document on your mobile device, don’t worry that much because there’s also an easy way to save it using the computer.
1. Go to Google Docs and open the document you want to save.
First of all, go to Google Docs and look for the document you want to save. If there’s none, go and create one.
2. Click the Folder icon located in the upper left corner of the document.
If a document is already open, you’ll notice a folder icon in the upper left corner. If you click this, a small drop-down window will appear with all of your folders on your Drive.
3. Choose which folder you want for the particular document to be saved.
You must choose the appropriate location for your document among all of the existing folders. If there is none, you can make just make one by clicking the small folder icon on the bottom-left part of the small pop-up window.
4. Click “Move” if you’re ready to save and transfer the document.
If you’ve already decided where you want to put and include your document, select that folder and click the “Move” button to transfer it successfully.
Keep Your Files in Drive and Computer
When saving documents, you can opt to have them kept in your Drive as well, if not on your device. This still allows you to preserve the document and locate it easily once you need to open them for a specific purpose. Plus, it also helps you store your existing files in an organized manner by categorizing them into different folders.
Yet, note that even though Google Drive is a very helpful platform for saving files and any other documents, its use is unlimited. Sooner or later, you’ll have to delete some documents you have saved there as you might use up its storage, and when that happens, you might encounter problems when using any Google platform.
Thus, a great tip would be to minimize or just pick out the files you wish to save in your Drive and just download the other ones on your device.
