How To Rename A Google Meet Meeting Name
Last Updated: December 25, 2020
Do you want to create a video conference event with a nickname on Google Meet? Or did you schedule a meeting with the wrong title or name? In any case, we’re here to help you. We have here a guide that can teach you how to name your meetings from your Google Calendar.
Not everyone that uses Meet has a Google Workspace account. As such, not everyone can create secure nicknamed meetings on the platform. So is there a way for Google account users to add names to their video conferences?
Well, the answer is yes. You have the option to schedule an event on Google Calendar instead of starting one from the Meet app or web browser client. By adding a title to your event and adding a Meet video conference feature, you can create a meeting with a name.
Aside from that, you can also change the title before anyone joins the room. In this way, you don’t have to create a new event to rename your meeting. For those who are not familiar with the process of scheduling on Google Calendar, we have here a quick guide that can help you.
How to change the title of your Google Meet meeting
If you want to add a title to your meeting, you can head over to Google Calendar and schedule an event. You can also change the name by editing the same event that you created.
Take note that you don’t have to follow your schedule to use the Google Meet room. You can use the link immediately as long as you have access to the link provided.
On your computer:
- Open your favorite web browser, visit Google Calendar, and proceed to sign-in to your account.
- At the top left side of the page, tap “Create” to schedule an event. Alternatively, you can select any vacant time on your Calendar to do so.
- Add a title, set the time, and add Google Meet video conferencing. The title you add here will be the name of your meeting once you start it.
- Once you finalize all the details, click Save.
After saving the schedule, you can now join the meeting using the link provided. On the preview page, you’ll see the name of the room that you included earlier.
Also, you have the option to rename the meeting before anyone joins the room. All you have to do is click the schedule, change the title, and click Save. Once you enter the meeting room, you’ll see the new name instead of the old one.
- Launch the Google Calendar app from your home screen or app drawer and sign-in to your account.
- At the bottom right corner of your screen, tap Create, and choose “Event.”
- Add the title, edit the other meeting details, and make sure to tap “Add video conferencing.”
- Once you finalize all the details and information about the event, tap Save at the top right corner of your screen.
Once you join the Google Meet conference with the link from the event, you’ll see the name of your meeting. If you want to change it, leave the room and edit the event on your Calendar app.
Nicknamed meetings for teachers
As for Google Workspace users, if you’re having trouble with instances where people reuse video conference rooms, you can create nicknamed meetings. This feature allows you to hold meetings without worrying about people reusing the meeting link in the future.
To create a nicknamed meeting, you can use a short link, add a nickname when you start a video conference, or use a code from your Google Classroom. Depending on your preference, you can use any of these methods as long as you have a Google Workspace account.
With the help of nicknamed meetings, teachers can prevent students from reusing the video conference room. Once the last person leaves the meeting, no one can rejoin it, even if you reuse the same title.
To sum it all up
To add a name to your Google Meet meetings, you can schedule an event from your Calendar instead of starting one from the Meet app or web client. You can also change the name of the event from there when you want to rename your meeting.
As for Google Workspace users, you have the option to create nicknamed meetings instead of scheduling one from Calendar. In this way, you can secure your room so that no one can reuse it after the last person leaves the room.
