Do you want to call the attention of the meeting presenter in Microsoft Teams without causing a disturbance? Or do you want to add your affirmation or inputs to the topics discussed while your microphone is on mute? Either way, you can use the raise hand feature on your meetings on Teams. Follow our tutorials below to learn how.
Tutorial
In Microsoft Teams, the meeting organizer can mute the other participants to minimize distractions while someone is presenting. In this way, the speaker can discuss and share ideas without interruptions from other people’s audio feed.
However, there are times when muted members might want to ask questions or contribute during the meeting. Thankfully, Teams allows users to raise their hand or use other emoticons inside the meeting room.
With the help of the raise hand feature, participants can get the attention of the host and other people in the room without using their mic.
In our guide below, we’ll show you how to raise your hand from meetings you attend from the Teams mobile or desktop app.
How to raise your hand in Microsoft Teams
If you want to get the attention of people in Microsoft Teams without causing a disturbance, you can raise your hand during the meeting. In this way, you can notify if you have a question or inquiry while your microphone is on mute.
You can raise your hand in a meeting whether you’re using Teams on your phone or computer. In our tutorials below, we’ll show you how to do it from both.
On your computer:
- Open the Teams desktop or web app and sign in to your account.
- Join an existing meeting with your team or start a new one.
- Inside the meeting room, select the Show reactions icon in the meeting controls at the top of the app. On the menu that appears, click Raise hand. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Shift + K on your keyboard as a shortcut.
Once you raise your hand, everyone in the meeting can see that you have your hand up. Also, presenters will receive a notification that you raised your hand. In this way, they can address your inquiry or unmute you if needed.
On the Teams mobile app:
- After signing in to your account, host a new meeting or join an existing one.
- Once you’re inside the meeting room, tap the three dots icon at the bottom of your screen.
- On the menu that appears on your screen, tap the raise hand icon.
Note: Raising hands isn’t available during one-on-one calls on Teams
Always remember that multiple people can raise their hands during a meeting on Teams. When that happens, the presenter or host can check the participants list to see the one who raised their hand first.
Like we mentioned earlier, the host or presenter receives a notification when someone raises their hand during a meeting. When multiple participants raise their hands, the host can also lower them at once.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to raise your hand in a Teams meeting, you can get the attention of the speaker without using your microphone. Aside from using the raise hand feature, you can also select a different emoji, depending on what you want to show to other users.
