Tutorial
Managing a community with a large number of people can be quite a task, especially if you want to keep the chat safe and secure for everyone. As the owner, you have the responsibility to make sure that everyone is following the guidelines for the chat.
Thankfully, you can promote members to an owner to help you manage the conversation. With more people that can monitor and manage the community, you won’t need as much time as before in checking the messages and editing the chat members.
Here’s our guide about promoting members to a Teams community.
How to make a member as an owner of a Teams community
If you need help in managing a community on Teams, you can promote one of the regular members to an owner. Owners can manage the chat members, including adding new people and removing existing ones.
You can promote someone as a community owner from the Teams mobile app. We’ll cover the steps to do so in our tutorials below.
On your phone:
- Launch the Teams mobile app and sign in to your personal account.
- Go to the Home tab and open one of the communities you manage.
- Tap the information icon on the conversation header.
- Tap the Manage option in the Members section.
- Tap one of the Members in the list.
- Tap the “Make owner” option on the menu that appears on your screen.
That’s how you promote a community member to an owner on Teams. Always remember that owners have a lot of permissions that can affect the community as a whole.
Community owners can manage the chat members, delete messages, and more. As such, you’ll need to be careful about who you want to delegate as another owner of the chat.
If you ever change your mind, you can demote an owner to a regular member of the community.
To wrap things up
Now that you know how to promote a member to a community owner on Teams, you can now add people that can help you manage the chat. However, always remember that other owners can promote members whenever they want, so make sure that you only delegate the people you trust as a chat owner.
