How To Play Quinn In League Of Legends
Last Updated: October 17, 2021
Out of all the Marksman champions in League of Legends, Quinn has got to be the safest pick to be a solo laner. Here’s how you can get started playing Demacia’s Wings.
Gaming
When she was first released, Quinn was a very broken champion. For starters, it seemed that she had a sort of identity crisis being unsure of what kind of role she fits in. Many years, patches, and reworks later Quinn has finally been tailored to a certain role. Thanks to these changes, she finds herself being one of the best top laners around and a very good off-meta ADC.
Champion Abilities
Quinn’s abilities make her a very self-sustaining champion. She has enough mobility, a bit of crowd control, and great vision that can help her protect herself when she overextends. Her kit also allows her to be a very powerful lane bully and can effectively shut down her opponents if she plays aggressively.
Passive – Harrier
Every few seconds, Valor marks a nearby enemy as Vulnerable, revealing it for 4 seconds. Quinn’s next attack on the target deals bonus physical damage. Harrier’s cooldown is reduced by Critical Strike Chance.

A great passive for trading. This is one of the biggest reasons why Quinn is such a lane bully especially in the top lane. Try to proc this passive whenever you can when your opponents try to farm or last hit minions.
Q – Blinding Assault
Valor flies in a line, marking the first enemy he hits as Vulnerable and reducing its vision radius dramatically for 1.75 seconds. He then deals physical damage to all nearby enemies. If the primary target is not a champion, it cannot attack for 1.75 seconds.

This ability is good for dueling as it limits your opponent’s vision. With their vision limited, they’ll need to be extremely close to you in order to see you and target you. It also has decent range and good burst damage making it effective when you use it to poke down your opponent.
W – Heightened Senses
Passive: Attacking a Vulnerable target increases Attack Speed and Movement Speed for 2 seconds.
Active: Valor reveals a large area nearby for 2 seconds.

The passive from this ability synergizes well with the rest of your abilities. It increases your overall DPS. It’s active, on the other hand, is one of the best utility spells in the game. Vision is very important in League of Legends and being able to reveal a wide area around you can get you out of a lot of sticky situations.
E – Vault
Quinn dashes to an enemy, dealing physical damage while Valor marks it as Vulnerable. Upon reaching the target, Quinn leaps off, briefly displacing and slowing it by 50% (diminishing over 1.5 seconds).

This is one of the main reasons why Quinn is a safe pick for a solo laner. Most champions will try to pick assassins or bruisers with gap closers against Quinn. Thanks to Vault, she can effectively deny their all in by displacing them whenever they try to get close. Afterwards, you deal a lot of damage against them.
R – Behind Enemy Lines
Quinn calls down to Valor to assist her. After a 2 second channel, they unite, gaining movement speed and the ability to cast Skystrike by recasting this ability or taking offensive action.Being damaged by non-minions removes the Movement Speed bonus for 3 seconds.

Quinn’s ultimate is a great source of burst damage during team fights or 1v1 scenarios. It also makes you ridiculously fast especially when combined with other move speed enhancing effects and abilities. Use this ability to roam and help your teammates get ahead.
Runes and Item Builds
The most important thing to keep in mind when deciding which items to build or what runes to pick for Quinn is to make sure that these runes and items will enhance both her damage and survivability. With that being said, let’s dive right in.
Starting Items

Quinn starts the game like any typical ADC. You start with a Doran’s Blade and a couple of Health Potions. This will help you last hit minions better and have a bit of sustain early on in the game. If you’re feeling a little risky and are confident in your matchup, you can start with a Long Sword plus Health Potions instead. This increases your overall damage but you lose some of the sustain from Doran’s Blade.
Mythic Items

You can choose any of the ADC Mythic items when you’re playing as Quinn. In fact, you could make a case for most of the Mythic items that have AD to be viable on Quinn. But out of all these options, the best ones are the ADC Mythics. Most of them are better than the others when it comes to certain situations but if you’re unsure of what to pick, you can never go wrong with Kraken Slayer. This makes Quinn’s basic attacks hurt even more thanks to its synergy with Harrier. If you feel like you could use more mobility, Galeforce is a good alternative because of its active dash. If you need more survivability because you fell behind or the enemies just have a lot of assassins that can focus you, take Immortal Shieldbow instead for its shield and lifesteal. Try to choose which Mythic item works best for you but as we’ve mentioned before, Kraken Slayer is the best option out of those three.
Full Build

After purchasing your Mythic, the next item you should purchase is Stormrazor. This adds more attack speed, damage, and crit plus it helps you clear waves faster. For boots, always go with Berserker’s Greaves for the attack speed. Next build Infinity Edge for more damage and crit and Lord Dominik’s Regard to help you deal with tanky opponents. Finish off your build with Guardian Angel for its additional damage and survivability.
Viable Items

There are plenty of other viable items on Quinn but they are all situational. If you need more damage or are having trouble executing your opponents, you can go for a Collector. If you need some magic resist and additional on hit damage, you can purchase a Wit’s End. Mercurial Scimitar is also a good item for more magic resist plus it has a cleanse active that can remove all debuffs from your champion. Bloodthirster is good for more lifesteal, Youmuu’s Ghostblade is great for more mobility, and Mortal Reminder is perfect against enemies with a lot of heal. There are a lot of viable build paths on Quinn so we encourage you to experiment and try these items out to see what works best for you.
Runes

For runes you’ll be going with the Precision tree and Press the Attack as your keystone. This synergizes incredibly well with Harrier and the passive from Kraken Slayer. Next take Overheal for the shield, Legend: Bloodline for the lifesteal, and Coup de Grace for more damage. For secondaries, take Taste of Blood and Ravenous Hunter from the Domination tree. These runes will help with your sustain and give you more heal as the game goes on. For rune shards, take Attack Speed, Adaptive Force, and Armor or Magic Resist depending on your matchup.
Useful Tips
- Quinn is very good in 1v1 situations. She’s arguably the best 1v1 champion in the game. Make sure to take advantage of that and play aggressively to get ahead of your opponent.
- Vault can actually be used to jump over terrain when used right. Try to angle yourself and watch your positioning to make an easy escape in certain situations.
- Quinn is countered by incredibly tanky champions who can stick to her using their crowd control abilities. Champions like Malphite or Kled can give Quinn a hard time if they match up. Try to ban these champions when you can.
- For summoner spells, take Flash and Teleport for you to have a global presence around the map and to allow you to split push in the later stage of the game. Ghost is a good alternative for Teleport when your enemies have a lot of slows that can hinder your mobility.
