Overview

Lylia is a unique mage. Her whole kit and playstyle is designed to avoid being caught by enemies. Her abilities let her deal massive damage from afar while her ultimate lets her play a little risky by letting herself get into potentially lethal situations that can lead to a kill. She has a pretty wide AoE and can cause a lot of damage to multiple targets without having to get close to the enemy. Thanks to her kit, she is also a very slippery hero that can open up a lot of outplay opportunities. She’s good at clearing minion waves and can kite enemies who get too close to her. She is at her best in the early game where it only takes 1 fully built Magic Damage item to get her going. However, she falls off pretty hard in the late game and can be pretty ineffective by then. She needs to be successful early on to break even in the later stage of the game. She also has pretty high mana usage so you need to be a little careful and plan your attacks instead of just aimlessly throwing your abilities without hitting anyone. Overall, Lylia is a solid mage and under the right hands, can force a win before the match reaches the late game.

Abilities

Lylia’s abilities are focused on dealing damage. Her kit makes her very hard to catch since it gives her both mobility and long ranged poke.

Passive – Angry Gloom

Lylia gets power from Gloom, increasing her movement speed by 15% whenever she is within the area of Gloom. Additionally, every time Gloom is upgraded, her movement speed is increased by 5%, stacking up to 4 times or 20% for a maximum of 35% movement speed increase.

This ability is pretty straightforward. Whenever Lylia has a Gloom summoned in an area, her movement speed increases. This makes it easy for her to reposition herself and kite enemies that try to dive her.

First Skill – Magic Shockwave

Lylia sends out Gloom in a line, dealing 250 / 300 / 350 / 400 / 450 / 500 (+100%Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies along the path and slowing them by 40% for 1.5 seconds. If Gloom touches Shadow Energy, he will devour and detonate it.

Lylia’s first ability isn’t all that effective unless used in conjunction with her second skill. Still, this is a solid ability on its own that deals magic damage and causes a 40% slow to enemies hit by it.

Second Skill – Shadow Energy

Lylia condenses Shadow Energy at the target location, dealing 100( +50% Total Magic Power) (Magic Damage) to enemies hit and slowing them by 80%. Shadow Energy can be detonated by Gloom’s devour, dealing 250( +100% Total Magic Power) (Magic Damage) to the enemies nearby. Each Gloom upgrade increases the detonation damage by 30%, up to 120%. Lylia starts with the skill Shadow Energy.

This is Lylia’s primary source of damage. It has great range and deals massive damage. It gets even better when used with Magic Shockwave. When Magic Shockwave passes through Shadow Energy, it summons a Gloom that will detonate it and deal even more damage. Most of the time, you can find creative angles to use this combo and you’ll be surprised how far back you can reach with it.

Ultimate – Black Shoes

Lylia returns to the Black Shoes’ location 4 seconds ago and restores all 5 Shadow Energy charges, 100% of her HP and Mana to the previous state, and gets an extra 10% / 15% / 20% Max HP. She also gains 20% extra Movement Speed by 20% for 2 / 3 / 4 seconds.

Lylia’s ultimate is basically a reset. The tricky thing about this ability is trying to control and predict where the Black Shoes will end up when you use it. It could leave you vulnerable in a dangerous situation or it could lead to an easy escape. The awareness of where you’ll land when you use this ability is what separates good Lylia players from bad ones.

Builds

For items, your primary focus is just increasing Lylia’s burst damage by stacking Magic Damage items. You should keep in mind what these items can do to enhance your abilities. Ideally, you’d want items that synergize with your bursts and not items that will deal a persistent damage over time. Out of all the builds, we have three items that are essential on Lylia. These core items are Lightning Truncheon, Genius Wand, and Divine Glaive

  • Lightning Truncheon

+75 Magic Power

+300 Mana

+10% CD REduction

Unique Passive – Resonate: Every 6 seconds, the next skill echoes, dealing 20-1000 Magic Damage (scales with the hero’s Max Mana) to up to 3 enemies.

  • Genius Wand

+75 Magic Power

+5% Movement SPD

Unique Passive: +10 Magic PEN

Unique Passive – Magic: Dealing damage to enemy heroes will reduce their Magic Defense by 2~9 for 2s (the Defense reduction scales with level). Stacks up to 3 times.

  • Divine Glaive

+65 Magic Power

Unique Passive: +35% Magic PEN

Unique Passive – Spellbreaker: Each point of the enemy’s Magic Defense increases Magic Penetration by 0.1% when dealing damage to it, capped at 20%.

All these items increase Lylia’s overall Magic Damage. Lightning Truncheon gives her mana and a bit more burst damage. Both Genius Wand and Divine Glaive increase her damage through Magic Penetration which is pretty handy considering she lacks damage in the late game.

Useful Tips

  1. For emblems, take the Mage set and Magic Worship as your talent. This talent inflicts a burn on the enemy when you damage them 3 times in 5 seconds.
  2. For battle spells, take Flicker or Purify. Flicker should be your go to spell as it gives you additional mobility while Purify is great when against enemies with a lot of crowd control.
  3. Being a mage, Lylia is naturally weak against assassins that can one shot her with their massive burst damage. She is also countered by heroes that can cancel out her ultimate by blocking it. Heroes like Minsithar, Franco, and Kaja are some hard counters to Lylia.
