Gaming

Overview

If you’re looking for an all in one hero that deals excellent damage, has a lot of mobility, crowd control, good wave clear, and can be incredibly durable, then look no further than Lapu-Lapu. Ever since he was revamped, he has been at the top of most tier lists being a very versatile fighter. He excels in both a side lane and in the jungle. Lapu-Lapu is a hero that likes to duel and rewards players for engaging in long extended fights. As a jungler, Lapu-Lapu can clear jungle camps rather quickly and his mobility certainly helps him get around the map easier for ganks. Despite utilizing items that give him damage, Lapu-Lapu still remains quite durable and can even fill the role of an offtank for his team. This is because of the innate shields he gets from his abilities. Overall, Lapu-Lapu is one of the best fighters you can use in the game and his impact can surely be felt whether he is dueling solo or in a team fight.

Abilities

Lapu-Lapu’s abilities mostly deal AoE damage and crowd control. He’s geared towards being a fighter and is well equipped to handle long extended skirmishes in the game.

Passive – Homeland Defender

Each time Lapu-Lapu deals damage, he gains 10 Bravery Blessing while hitting non-hero units will only make him gain 5 Bravery Blessing (halved from non-hero units). When his Bravery Blessing is full, his next Basic Attack or Justice Blades will be enhanced, granting Lapu-Lapu a shield that can absorb 450 (+65*Hero Level) damage for 2.5 seconds.

The enhanced Basic Attack will cause him to dash toward the target, dealing (+200% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage. This Basic Attack cannot be a critical hit.

The enhanced Justice Blades will slow the target by 60% for 1 second.

Lapu-Lapu’s passive is one of the reasons why he is a great duelist. Instead of having mana, he gets a different resource bar that allows him to deal enhanced damage and gives him a shield. It also adds a slow to his first ability. This passive is absolutely overloaded with features that makes Lapu-Lapu a force to reckon with.

First Skill – Justice Blades/Land Shaker

Twin Blades: Lapu-Lapu releases two boomerangs in the designated direction. Each boomerang deals 175 / 200 / 225 / 250 / 275 / 300 (+50% Extra Physical Attack) Physical Damage to enemies hit on its way out or back. If the two boomerangs hit the same target, it will only deal 50% damage with the second boomerang.

Heavy Blade: Lapu-Lapu gathers strength with his heavy sword for 0.7 second, during which enemies under the sword shadow will be slowed by 60%. Then Lapu-Lapu slashes with his heavy sword in a designated direction, dealing 250 / 280 / 310 / 340 / 370 / 400 (+100% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage to enemies hit and stunning them for 1 second.

Lapu-Lapu’s first skill is his primary damaging ability. In Twin Blades form, it deals pretty good aoe damage with decent range. It is best used to poke down enemies in a lane or to quickly clear jungle camps. In Heavy Blade form, this gives him a potent source of burst damage and good crowd control.

Second Skill – Jungle Warrior/Storm Sword

Twin Blades: Lapu-Lapu slashes his twin blades and charges in a designated direction, dealing 100 / 120 / 140 / 160 / 180 / 200 (+50%Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage to enemies on the path.

Heavy Blade: Lapu-Lapu whirls his heavy sword, dealing 250 / 280 / 310 / 340 / 370 / 400 (+100% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage to nearby enemies. For each enemy hero hit, he gains a 15% damage reduction for 3 seconds.

In Twin Blades form, this is Lapu-Lapu’s main mobility spell. It is a great way to close the gap between him and his target or for making quick escapes as it can go through most terrain. In Heavy Blade form, Lapu-Lapu deals an AoE burst that also increases his tankiness thanks to the damage reduction.

Ultimate – Bravest Fighter/Raging Slash

Twin Blades: Lapu-Lapu leaps up in the air, combines his twin blades into one, and lands on the ground, dealing 350 / 450 / 550 (+120% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage to enemies in area and slowing them by 60% for 1s. (Gains 500% Bravery Blessing.)

He then enters Heavy Sword Stance for 10 seconds with all his skills enhanced and Basic Attack damage increased to 120%, increasing his Physical Defense and Magic Defense by 30 / 50 / 70.

Heavy Blade: Lapu-Lapu releases three continuous slashes with his heavy sword forward. Each of the first two slashes deals 280 / 360 / 440 (+130% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage, and the third slash deals 420 / 540 / 600 (+210% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage.

During the slashes, Lapu-Lapu is immune to control effects. Right after each slash, he is able to change his direction and slightly move.

Lapu-Lapu’s ultimate is a good source of burst damage in whatever form he is in. He can essentially cast two different ultimates at the same time and this can deal massive damage to his targets.

Builds

As a fighter, you should be focused on building items that increase Lapu-Lapu’s damage and survivability. If it deals damage and also gives health, it can probably be a viable item on this hero. Items that work well in long sustained fights would be great picks on a hero like Lapu-Lapu. Out of all the builds, there are 3 items that stand out and should be present in most, if not all, of his builds. These core items are Bloodlust Axe, War Axe, and Immortality.

  • Bloodlust Axe

+70 Physical ATK

+10% CD Reduction

+20% Spell Vamp

  • War Axe

+35 Physical ATK
+550 HP
+10% CD Reduction

Unique Passive – Fighting Spirit: Dealing damage to enemies grants 9 Physical Attack and 3 Physical Penetration per second for 3s, to a max of 8 stacks (Marksmen/Mages/Supports only receive 33% of these stacked effects); also grants 15% Movement Speed at full stacks.

  • Immortality

+800 HP

+40 Physical Defense

Unique Passive – Immortal: Resurrect 2.5s upon death and gets 16% Max HP and 220-1200 shield that lasts for 3s. (Scales with level) This effect has a CD of 210s.

All these items increase Lapu-Lapu’s effectiveness in the game. He is a very strong duelist and these items enhance his strengths in this area. Bloodlust Axes gives him damage and sustain, War Axe gives him additional damage along with additional health, and Immortality gives him tankiness with a passive that allows him to resurrect.

Useful Tips

  1. For emblems, the best sets to use are the Fighter set when in an offlane and the Assassin set when in the jungle. For talents, take Festival of Blood for the additional spell vamp and sustain when playing in a lane or Killing Spree for the bonus HP and Movement Speed when playing in the jungle.
  2. For battle spells, take Flicker, Petrify, or Retribution. If you’re playing as a jungler, you obviously need to take Retribution to secure objectives like Lord or Turtle. When laning, you can go with Flicker or Petrify depending on your preference. Flicker is a good all around spell with a lot of utility while Petrify gives you additional crowd control which can be useful for locking down high priority targets.
  3. Lapu-Lapu is easily countered by heroes that can disrupt his combos and prevent him from sticking to his targets. Heroes that directly counter him are Tigreal, Nana, Chou, and Kaja.
