How To Play Hylos In Mobile Legends

Tanks have always been in a good spot in Mobile Legends. Most tanks have a lot of crowd control and very good durability. Hylos is one of those tanks that can give you both and more. Here’s everything you need to know to get you started playing the Grand Warden.

Overview

Hylos is a tank that works great when roaming the map but also strong in an offlane. As a tank, he can give you a little bit of everything. While he doesn’t have any area of effect crowd control that is common with most tanks, he does have a single target stun that’s perfect for locking down high priority targets and peeling for your teammates. He’s also one of the few heroes that can tank and heal himself at the same time. He can also deal decent damage in team fights thanks to his AoE damaging ability. Hylos works best when initiating fights or following up when a teammate is being focused in a fight. The best part about Hylos is that he can directly dive straight for the enemy’s backline and focus on their carries. Overall, you won’t find many weaknesses in Hylos’ kit and play style. The only areas he is lacking are the lack of AoE crowd control and the ability to effectively finish off opponents; things that can be covered in the right team composition.

Abilities

Hylos’ entire kit is focused on being both a tank and support at the same time. He works best as a damage dealing tank while peeling and buffing his teammates.

Passive – Thickened Blood

For each 1 Max Mana he gains from Equipment items and Emblems, Hylos gains an extra 1.5 Max HP. When Mana is not enough, HP will be used to cast skills instead.

This is a very underrated passive. Most players will tend to ignore just how effective this ability really is especially on a hero like Hylos. Not only does it make him tankier when building mana items, it also guarantees that Hylos will always be able to use his abilities even without mana. It’s perfect for close call situations since Hylos can basically outlast any hero who tries to 1v1 him.

First Ability – Law and Order

Hylos locks down a target, dealing 300 / 350 / 400 / 450 / 500 / 550 (+80% Total Magic Power) points of Magic Damage and stunning them for 1 second.

Hylos’ only form of crowd control. Despite the only CC in his kit, it is pretty effective and allows Hylos to focus on high priority targets. It deals a fairly decent amount of damage as well.

Second Ability – Ring of Punishment

Hylos releases the Ring of Punishment, continuously dealing 120 / 150 / 180 / 210 / 240 / 270 (+20% Total Magic Power) points of Magic Damage to enemies, reducing their Movement Speed by 6% and Attack Speed by 5% while increasing the damage of this skill by 5% / 8% / 11% / 14% / 17% / 20% per stack.

The effects of this skill can be stacked for up to 10 times for a maximum of 60% Movement Speed Reduction, 50% Attack Speed Reduction, and 20% damage increase that lasts for 2.5 seconds.

This is one of Hylos abilities that make him such a good hero in team fights. This ability, when toggled, deals damage while also applying debuffs to enemy heroes. A lot of players will underestimate the damage this ability does so make sure to have this on whenever you are in a fight.

Ultimate – Glorious Pathway

Hylos creates a pathway for 6 seconds that heals him according to 3% / 4% / 5% of his Max HP and makes him immune to slows while on the pathway.

Allies moving towards the end of the pathway will have their Movement Speed increased by 60% / 65% / 70%, while enemies moving towards the start of the pathway will have their Movement Speed reduced by 70% / 75% / 80%.

Hylos’ ultimate is his signature ability and what he is best known for. It is an AoE movement speed buff that also slows enemies while healing Hylos for a percentage of his Max HP. It is a great initiation tool that allows you to chase down enemies, disrupt teamfights, and focus down the enemies’s carries. It can also be used as an escape tool when regrouping after a team fight.

Builds

When it comes to item builds, you build Hylos like any other tank. You mostly focus on increasing his health, durability and overall resistances. If you’re a roamer, the best blessing to get would be Passive – Encourage. This allows you to buff up your teammates even more and would be a great help whenever you come over to gank. Mana increasing items would also work great on Hylos as well as items with a lot of HP regeneration. Items that would increase your AoE damage would work pretty great too since they would synergize with Ring of Punishment. Out of all the items, there are three that we would consider core on Hylos. These are Clock of Destiny, Dominance Ice, and Cursed Helmet

  • Clock of Destiny

+615 HP

+60 Magic Power

+600 Mana

Unique Passive – Time: Adds 25 HP and 4 Magic Power every 20s. Up to 12 times

Unique Passive – Reincarnate: If Time reaches Max, then the hero will receive extra 5% Magic Power and 300 Mana

  • Dominance Ice

+70 Physical Defense

+500 Mana

+5% Movement Speed

Unique Passive: +10% CD Reduction

Unique Passive – Arctic Cold: Reduces the Shield and HP Regen of nearby enemy heroes by 50% (excluding those affected by “Life Drain”), and their Attack Speed by 30%.

  • Cursed Helmet

+1200 HP

+25 Magic Defense

Unique Passive – Burning Soul: Deals 1.5% Magic Damage equal to the Max HP to nearby enemies per second. The damage will increase 50% to Minions.

All of these core items optimize Hylos’ effectiveness through increasing his survivability or increasing his overall damage output. Clock of Destiny gives him a bit of early sustain and some late game damage. Dominance Ice makes him tankier and more durable while also letting him deal more damage through his abilities thanks to the increase in Mana. Cursed Helmet is a pretty great Magic Defense item that gives you a ton of HP and increases your DPS.

Useful Tips

  1. For emblems, the best sets to take are either the Tank or Support sets. The Tank set is better for playing in an offlane role. If you went with the Tank emblems, the best talent would be Concussive Blast. This increases your damage output and dueling potential because every 15 seconds, your first basic attack will deal 125(+7% HP) Magic Damage in an AoE. If you went with the Support emblems, the best talent would be Focusing Mark. This talent will increase the damage from your allies for 3 seconds whenever you deal damage on an enemy hero. When roaming, this talent will greatly increase your chances of securing a kill whenever you gank other lanes.
  2. For battle spells, the best choices would either be Flicker or Revitalize. Flicker just gives you more utility in general and would be perfect for setting up kills in a gank. Revitalize, on the other hand, gives you a heal and would work best if you are in a lane.
  3. Hylos is weak against heroes that can negate the effects of his abilities. His overall damage and crowd control would only work if he can get close to his enemies. Heroes like Diggie, Eudora, Odette, and Grock are examples of heroes that can hard counter Hylos through their abilities.
