Last Updated: January 20, 2022
Bane is a very versatile fighter that can fit multiple needs in a team composition. Although he is mostly played in the EXP Lane, he has multiple build paths he can utilize that can vary his playstyle. Here’s everything you need to know about the Frozen King.
Gaming
Overview
Bane is one of the few champions that can be built either with full Magic of full Physical build. Most of his abilities can scale with either Magic or Physical Attack so you have a lot of choices when it comes to your build path. It can also change up which lane you decide to go to. If you’re going for a Physical build, you’re better off being in the EXP Lane while the Magic build is perfect for the Mid Lane. No matter what build path you go for, Bane will always feel overpowered in the late game. His combination of burst, sustain, and AoE crowd control makes him one of the better heroes in the game. His only weaknesses are high mana usage and a distinct lack of blink skills. Overall, Bane is a solid champion that has a low skill floor but has a high ceiling in terms of carrying his team.
Abilities
As we’ve mentioned before, most of Bane’s abilities scale with Magic and Physical Attack so you have different choices when it comes to playstyle. Bane’s overall kit focuses on sustain, burst damage, and AoE crowd control.
Passive – Shark Bite

Whenever he casts a skill, Bane infuses his weapon with a stack of (Tidal Energy), up to 2 stacks. As a result, his next Basic Attack will consume 1 stack to deal ( +135% Total Physical ATK)-( +170% Total Physical ATK) (Physical Damage) to nearby enemies (increases with hero level).
Bane’s passive adds to his overall DPS and increases his wave clear whenever he uses his abilities.
First Skill – Crab Claw Cannon

Bane fires his Crab Claw Cannon in a designated direction, dealing 150( +160% Total Physical ATK) (Physical Damage) to the first enemy hit. The shell will then bounce to a random enemy behind them (prioritizes enemy hero), dealing 150% damage. If the first enemy is killed by the shell, the bounce damage will increase to 200%. Enemies hit will also be slowed by 10( +10% Total Magic Power)% for 1s. Every 100 (Physical Attack) Bane possesses additionally reduces this skill’s cooldown by 5%.
Bane’s main source of damage. This is a great ability with good range that can poke down enemies even if they’re hiding behind minions.
Second Skill – Ale

Bane takes a chug of his ale, restoring 160( +150% Total Magic Power) plus 6( +3% Total Magic Power)% of lost HP and gaining 50% extra Movement Speed that rapidly decays over 2.5s. (Use Again:) Bane spits venom at a fan-shaped area ahead, dealing 200( +180% Total Magic Power) (Magic Damage) (scales with charging time, up to 150%) to enemies hit. Every 100 points of (Magic Power) Bane possesses additionally reduces this skill’s cooldown by 7%.
Bane’s primary sustain skill and the focal point of his attacks when using a Magic build. It has a wide area of effect and can deal decent damage. You’ll be surprised how much of your health can be restored when using this ability in a full magic build.
Ultimate – Deadly Catch

Bane summons a school of sharks to charge in a designated direction. When they hit enemies, they will deal 600( +100% Total Physical ATK)( +170% Total Magic Power) (Magic Damage), knock them airborne for 0.4s, and slow them by up to 65% (decays steadily over 3s). The sharks also deal 40% of damage to Turrets.
Bane’s ultimate is perfect for setting up team fights and causing disruptions to the enemy team’s formation. It also deals pretty decent damage and is an overall great ability to have.
Builds

Bane’s abilities scale off both Magic and Physical ATK. You can decide to go full Magic or full Physical but you can’t go for a hybrid build. The reason being, hybrid builds reduce the effectiveness of Bane’s damage. Bane can also be a viable jungler if your team needs it. The builds all vary differently but we will talk about the two most core items that bane needs in a Physical and a Magic build.
- Endless Battle
+65 Physical ATK
+5 Mana Regen
+250 HP
+10% CD Reduction
+5% Movement SPD
+10% Physical Lifesteal
Unique Passive – Divine Justice: In 3s after using the skill, the caster’s next Basic Attack will deal additional True Damage as much as 60% of Physical Attack with a cooldown of 1.5s.
Unique Passive – Chase Fate: When Divine Justice’s effect is triggered, it will increase the hero’s movement speed 10%.
- Clock of Destiny
+615 HP
+60 Magic Power
+600 Mana
Unique Passive – Time: Adds 25 HP and 4 Magic Power every 20s. Up to 12 times
Unique Passive – Reincarnate: If Time reaches Max, then the hero will receive extra 5% Magic Power and 300 Mana
Endless Battle is your core item on Bane when going for a Physical damage build. Since Bane relies mostly on his skills to do damage, this item will empower each of his basic attacks right after using abilities. It also synergizes perfectly with his passive, Shark Bite. On the other hand, Clock of Destiny is what makes Bane’s early game stronger when going for a Magic build. It increases his sustain and scales very well into the late game. Plus it helps solves his mana issues early on.
Useful Tips
- The best Battle Spells to use on Bane are Arrival and Flicker. Go for Arrival when playing in an EXP Lane and Flicker for Mid Lane.
- For Emblems, go with Assassin when in the EXP Lane and take Killing Spree as your talent. If playing in the Mid Lane, go with Mage and take Mystery Shop as your talent.
- Since Bane doesn’t have much in terms of mobility, champions who can kite him from a distance like Miya, Layla, and Nana are hard counters against him. Try to get help from your teammates if you are in a game against this champion to take them down.
