How To Play Aurelion Sol In League Of Legends
Last Updated: July 19, 2022
Ever thought of playing an actual space dragon in League of Legends? Then have we got the champion for you! In this guide, we’ll show you everything you need to know to get you started playing the Star Forger, Aurelion Sol.
Gaming
Aurelion Sol has got to be one of the most unique champions in the game. He is a very strong roaming champion with a lot of utility built into his kit. This allows him to easily impact other lanes to help his team secure leads or snowball out of control. He may not be the most mobile champion, but it’s safe to say that he has great maneuverability. He has good poke and good wave clear which makes trading and pushing the lane easier.
Abilities
Aurelion Sol’s kit is all about dealing magic damage. He has both burst damage capabilities as well as good DPS.
Passive – Center of the Universe

Three Stars circle Aurelion Sol, dealing magic damage and executing minions below 25 health. The Stars can be visible to enemies even if Aurelion Sol is in brush.
Q – Starsurge

Aurelion Sol creates a new stellar core, which grows over time and grants him 20% bonus Movement Speed. The core will detonate when it reaches his Outer Limit, applying magic damage and stunning enemies based on the star’s size.
W – Celestial Expansion

Passive: Increase Star base damage.
Active: Aurelion Sol’s Stars orbit at his Outer Limit and deal 140% damage, rotating at high but decaying speed. Upon reactivation or after 3 seconds, he retracts his Stars and gains 40% bonus movement speed decaying over 1.5 seconds.
E – Comet of Legend

Fly in the chosen direction or until clicking to move. Aurelion Sol can see and be seen over walls while Flying. Taking champion or turret damage will force a landing.
R – Voice of Light

Breathes out a blast of pure starfire, dealing magic damage and applying a 2 seconds slow. The blast will also knock nearby enemies back to Aurelion Sol’s Outer Limit.
Runes and Item Builds
When it comes to item builds, all you need to focus on is increasing Aurelion Sol’s damage by buying ability power items. Throw in some items for survivability and you’ll be good to go.
Starting Items

For your starting items, you have two choices. The safest starting item would be Corrupting Potion since it gives you sustain and increases your dueling power in the early parts of the game. On the other hand, you have Doran’s Ring which gives you mana sustain but doesn’t offer the safety net Corrupting Potion provides.
Mythic Item

Most of the Mythic Items for mages are actually quite viable on Aurelion Sol. Among them, however, two stand out in particular. The first one is Everfrost. This item gives you all the stats you need while giving you another layer of utility thanks to the active root it provides. The other good option is Liandry’s Anguish. This item increases your damage over time while also increasing all your other key stats.
Full Build

After purchasing your desired Mythic item, you need to upgrade into tier 2 boots. Since you’re a mage, go for Sorcerer’s Shoes. Up next, you’ll need Rylai’s Crystal Scepter to give your abilities a passive slow. After, you’ll need Zhonya’s Hourglass for the extra survivability. Then, you’ll need Shadowflame for the additional magic penetration. Finally, top off your build with Rabadon’s Deathcap for even more damage.
Runes

For your runes, go with the Domination tree and take Electrocute as your keystone. This will increase your overall damage output thanks to the burst it provides. Next, take Taste of Blood for the heal, Eyeball Collection to increase your damage, and Relentless Hunter to get bonus movement speed. For secondaries, take Biscuit Delivery and Time Warp Tonic for more sustain in the early game. For rune shards, take Attack Speed, Adaptive Force, and Magic Resist.
Useful Tips
- Save Voice of Light to use as a defense against melee opponents that try to dive you. Otherwise, take advantage of its long range and use it to start a fight.
- Aurelion Sol is countered by Galio, Orianna, Lux, Vex, and Corki. If you’re matched up against these champions, try to play it safe instead of being aggressive.
- For your summoner spells, take Flash and Ignite to give you more utility and to help you secure early leads. If you want to play it safe, you can swap out Ignite for Heal, Barrier, or Cleanse.
