How To Mute Someone On Discord
Last Updated: November 1, 2021
Do you find one of your server members too loud or annoying in one of your voice channels? Do you want to turn off that member’s audio feed for yourself in the meantime? If that’s the case, you can mute them on Discord. In our guide below, we’ll cover muting users on the Discord app from your phone or computer.
Tutorial
In Discord, users can join voice channels to talk with their friends and other members on a server. In this way, people have another option besides text channels to communicate with other users.
When participating in a voice channel, there might be users that you find annoying, loud, or distracting. Thankfully, Discord allows you to mute these users on your end. As for administrators and members with management permissions, they can mute users on the entire server.
With that in mind, here’s our guide on how to mute users on Discord.
How to mute someone’s audio on Discord
If someone is too noisy or on one of your server’s voice channels, you can opt to mute them on your end. When you do, you won’t hear any audio from the user until you unmute the person from Discord.
You can mute users whether you’re using Discord on your phone or mobile device. Follow our step-by-step tutorials below, and we’ll cover everything you need to know about doing so.
On the Discord desktop and web app:
- Head to the server where you want to mute a user.
- Check one of your voice channels and right-click on a member’s username or display name.
- Once the menu appears, select the Mute option.
If you want to hear from the person, but you find their microphone too loud, you can opt to lower the user’s volume instead. On the other hand, you can also increase the audio volume if you can’t hear them properly.
Server members with the right permissions can opt to mute a member for the entire server. This option can help moderators mute people that are too loud or distracting in voice channels.
You can also right-click on a user on the server members list or any channel and mute them from the menu. As such, there’s no need for you to wait for someone to join a voice channel to mute them.
On the Discord mobile app:
- After opening the app and signing in to your account, tap the hamburger icon on the top left corner of the current channel.
- Head to one of your servers and tap the voice channel where you want to mute a user.
- On the menu that appears on your screen, select the user that you want to mute.
- On the user’s profile page, enable the Mute option.
Alternatively, you can open the members list by swiping to the left on the current channel and tapping one of the users of the server to open their profile page. From there, you can mute the member on your end.
Like we mentioned earlier, you can choose to lower someone’s volume instead of muting them entirely. As an administrator or someone with the right permissions, you can also mute users for the entire server.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to mute someone on Discord, there’s no need for you to endure annoying or loud users on your voice channels. You won’t hear anything from a user until you unmute them in the future.
