How To Message Your Friends While In Game On League Of Legends

Have you ever wanted to message a friend while in-game? Unsure if your friends can even see your message? We’re here to help you out. In this guide, we’ll show you how you can message your friends while in-game on League of Legends.

How Do You Chat with a Friend While In-Game?

Don’t you just hate it when you logged in to League of Legends and you find your friends just started a game without you? Don’t you just wish you could send them a message to let them know you want to join the next game? Well we’re here to help make those wishes come true. Luckily, in League of Legends, messages can be sent to and from anyone on your friends list.

Here’s how you do it.

If you want to send a message to a friend currently in-game, you just have to click on their name on your friends list, and you’ll be able to send them a message.

But what if you are the one that is currently in the middle of the game? How do you send a message to your friends?

Easy. First, open up the chat. Now, type the command “/msg” followed by your friend’s username in League of Legends. Before you hit enter, include the actual message you want to send to your friend.

You can easily tell it apart from the in-game chat with your private messages from their color: the in-game chat will be in white while your top secret messages will be in yellow! Your friend’s reply would also be in the same color, so you wouldn’t have to worry about confusing it with your teammates’ messages.

Replying to your friends is even easier. We understand that typing “/msg <name_of_amazing_friend>” would take too long and, in a game like League of Legends, every second matters. You gotta be on your toes at all times. Fortunately, you only have to type “/r.” If your friend has replied to you at least once, you can simply type “/r” and press space, then the game will auto fill the rest. It’ll change “/r” into “/msg” followed by the name of the last person who messaged you.

This feature isn’t limited to just friends of yours who aren’t in-game. You can use this feature to send a private message to your friend while in the same game. So, yeah you can vent out your frustrations with a friend, like say if you think your jungler sucks, without your other teammates knowing.

One last tip, you can type in “/help” or “/?” in the chat box to see the list of available text commands you can use while in the game.

There you have it! Isn’t it neat that you could message your friends while in-game? Remember to use this to your advantage and have fun in your games. See you on the Rift!
