How To Make Google Home Control Your Tv
Last Updated: January 2, 2020
Google’s ChromeCast has transformed the way that you look at TV. Now, you can see videos, listen to music, and watch your favorite shows and series on your TV. But the advantage is that you can control it through your phone, and with a simple touch you have access to a wide variety of digital content.
Some TVs even have the ChromeCast system in-built. This means that you no longer need to buy the stick, and you will enjoy the same benefits. Nevertheless, some content requires payment. For some of them, you will have to make a one-time purchase, and for others, you have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription.
However, ChromeCast has made everything simpler. But Google has something more to offer. If you have a Google Home smart speaker, you can use it to control your TV with your voice! Yes, you heard right. You can link your ChromeCast and your Google Home device together, and take advantage of this great feature.
But how can you do it? Well; keep reading, and you’ll find out.
Connecting ChromeCast to Your TV
If you either have already linked those two, or you have a TV with the in-built app, you can skip this step.
Install the Google Home app on your Smartphone and open it. Once it’s done, you can either head to the top left corner and click on the plus icon. Or you can go to the bottom right corner and click on the account icon. A quick heads up, it is faster if you choose the first path.
If you’ve listened to me (you click on the red rectangle), click on the “set up device”, which is at the top.
Now, if you didn’t listen, you have to choose the “set up or add ” option. Then click on the same option mentioned above. I told you, the other way is faster.
Choose the new devices option. Beware, both your home and the ChromeCast must share the same WiFi connection.
Select where you are and click next. The app will start scanning the area. After a short wait, a number will appear on your TV and smartphone, if both match, click next.
Follow the same procedure if you haven’t linked your Google Home device.
Linking ChromeCast and Google Home
After you have link both devices individually, launch the app again. Now, all linked devices that you have should appear at the home screen of the app.
All that is left, if you choose the devices that you wish to link and that is all.
Now, you can control your TV with Google Home. Bear in mind that, as this is a new feature, there are not so many commands. Therefore, the functionality is somehow restricted. For example, you can ask Google Home to open the Netflix app. However, your Netflix and google accounts must be linked. Otherwise, you won’t be able to open it.
Remember that at the beginning of every command, you have to either say “Okay Google” or “Hey Google”.
