Let’s say you are on the train and decided to watch some anime while traveling. Then, you get stuck watching one episode after another. And you keep watching and watching. Suddenly, you realized that the app has used up more than 5GB of data.

At first, this can be really shocking. The streaming service can put a huge strain on your mobile network. So, is there a way around it? Can you use the Crunchyroll app without using that much data? Don’t worry; we are here to answer that question for you.

We will show you a simple way you can use less data on your Crunchyroll account. This can be pretty handy, especially if you are on the road a lot.

Less Quality More Functionality

If you want to watch more anime shows on 4G, you need to be practical. You have to use your internet wisely. The best way to do it is to rely more on functionality rather than the quality of the video. What you can do is reduce the quality of the video.

While it won’t use 100% less data, it can still be useful. Every time you play an episode, Crunchyroll will always use their best video quality resolution. You are guaranteed to watch a 1080p video. But, since you want to save up some data, you can reduce the quality.

To do that, go to “Settings.” Then, look for “Video Preferences.” It is right under “Account Settings.” Here, on the right side of the window is “Default Video Quality.” Set your default to “480p” or “720p”. Whatever you prefer.

If you set it to lower, it will use less data than 1080p. Plus, it will load faster if you have a poor internet connection.

Here, we will give you an example of how the screen resolution on the tablet will look like. This is how the high resolution looks like. As you can see, the picture is pretty clear. The colors are bright and vivid. There is not a single line you will miss.

This is a lower resolution. It is a bit blurry. You can still enjoy the bright colors, but it won’t be as smooth as the previous one. If you play the video on full screen, you will realize the big difference. It is not that appealing to the eyes. But, it is useful if you want to save up some data.

The settings are easy to access. If you don’t like the poor quality, you can always change the resolution back. It will take just a couple of seconds.

Conclusion

Crunchyroll does use a lot of data. If you want to use less, you have to sacrifice the quality of the video you are currently watching. Let us know if you found this helpful in the comments below.
