WhatsApp communities allow users to connect and link different group chats in one place. This feature makes it easier for people from your school, neighborhood, or workspace to join different conversations and get the information they need.

After joining a community, you can easily request to join the different groups under it. However, there might be a situation where you no longer want to participate in a community.

Thankfully, you can leave a community as a member whenever you want. Here’s a quick guide to help you find the option to do so.

How to exit a community on WhatsApp

If you don’t wish to be a part of a WhatsApp community anymore, you can leave it whenever you want. When you exit a community, you can no longer access its groups and view any information within it.

You can leave a community from the WhatsApp web, desktop, and mobile app. We’ll cover all the steps to do so in our tutorials below.

On your phone:

1. Open WhatsApp on your device and sign in to your account.
2. Go to the Communities tab by clicking its icon beside the Chats tab.
   
   
3. Open the community that you want to manage.
   
   
4. Select the Exit group option from the menu.
   
   
5. Tap the “Exit” option on the pop-up window to confirm your decision.

That’s how you leave a community from the WhatsApp Android app. After leaving a community, you will lose access to all the groups under it.

On your computer:

1. Open the WhatsApp web or desktop app and link it to your account.
2. Click the Communities icon on top of the sidebar.
   
   
3. Open the community that you want to manage.
   
   
4. Scroll down and select the “Exit community” option on the community details tab.
   
   
5. Click “Exit” on the pop-up window to confirm your decision.

Please note that you can’t leave a community on WhatsApp when you’re the one who created it. You can only deactivate the community as the owner.

If you ever change your mind, you can ask one of the admins (if you can contact one) to add you back to the community.
