Is someone bothering you on Messenger? Do you want to remove the conversation from your chats list instead of blocking the person on the app? If that’s the case, you can use the Ignore Messages option on Facebook Messenger. Follow us on our quick guide below, and we’ll show you how to use the feature on your phone or computer.
Tutorial
In Facebook Messenger, there are a couple of ways to deal with someone that keeps on bothering you with messages and call requests. You can mute the conversation or block the person’s account completely.
Blocking prevents the account from sending messages and call requests to you. While this is the most effective way to cut connections with someone on the app, the person gets to know that you blocked them when they check your conversation.
Thankfully, there’s the Ignore Messages option on Messenger. With the help of this feature, you can hide the conversation from your chats list indefinitely while ignoring their messages in the future.
Here’s our quick guide on how to ignore messages on Messenger.
How to ignore chats on Messenger
If you don’t want to hear from a chat on Messenger anymore but don’t want to block the chat person, you can ignore their messages instead. When you do, you won’t receive notifications when you receive the messages directly.
You can ignore messages on Messenger whether you’re on your computer or mobile device. In our quick tutorials below, we’ll cover how to do it on both devices.
On your computer:
- Using your preferred browser, visit the Messenger web app and sign in to your account.
- Go to the chat that you want to ignore.
- On the conversation information section on the right, expand Privacy & Support and click Ignore Messages.
- Once the pop-up window appears on your screen, click Ignore Messages to confirm your decision.
When you ignore someone’s messages on Messenger, the app transfers the conversation to your Spam. If you ever change your mind, you can open the chat on the connections requests section and accept it.
The people involved within the chat won’t know that you ignored their messages on the app. As such, this option is an alternative to blocking people on Messenger.
On your Android device:
- Open Messenger from your home screen or app drawer and sign in to your account.
- Go to the chat that you want to ignore.
- Tap the information icon on the upper right corner of the chat window.
- Under the Privacy section, select Ignore Messages.
- Once the pop-up window appears on your screen, tap Ignore to confirm your decision.
Unlike muting someone on Messenger, ignoring their messages won’t move their conversation back to the chats list when you receive a message. You won’t see the conversation again unless you accept their messages on the connections request on your account.
To wrap things up
Now that you know how to ignore a chat on Messenger, you can prevent someone’s messages from reaching you immediately without blocking their account. Aside from that, you won’t notify the person involved when using this option.
