How To Hide Recently Watched Titles On The Amazon Firestick

We all have our secrets. For some it’s High School Reunion. For others it’s re-runs of Friends or Moonlighting. Whatever your personal TV indulgence, some things are better kept secret. If you have just had a binge on your personal favorite, you might like to learn how to hide recently watched titles on the Amazon Firestick.

Streaming

The Amazon Firestick is an awesome little device that has changed the way we view content. Even if you don’t use it yourself, it’s success has driven huge changes in media and has changed the way broadcasters view streaming. Along with Netflix and Hulu, the Amazon Firestick is constantly influencing the future of media and that isn’t going to end soon.

Recently watched is a list of all the titles you have viewed recently. It’s either a list of shame or something to remind you of the movies and TV shows you watched but have already forgotten. Either way, knowing where this list is and how to clear it could be a useful thing to learn.

As TV shows and movies are the two main content types on the Firestick, both have their own recently watched section. There is also an extra step for Amazon Prime Videos you may have watched using your Firestick.

Hide recently watched TV shows on the Amazon Firestick

You can remove recently watched TV shows from the home page by selecting the ‘X’ that appears when you hover over it. That doesn’t remove it from Recently Watched though, just from the home page. To completely remove it you need to do this:

  1. Select TV on your Firestick.
  2. Hover over a TV show you want to remove and select More Info.
  3. Select ‘Remove from Recent’ when you see it.

Depending on your version of Firestick you will either see Remove from Recent or Remove from Recently Watched. Either way, selecting the option should remove if both from the home page and the recently watched list.

Hide recently watched movies on the Amazon Firestick

The process for removing recently watched movies is much the same. You can also remove them from the home page if you’re just clearing up but you can also remove them from Recents.

  1. Select Movies on your Firestick.
  2. Hover over a movie and select More Info.
  3. Select ‘Remove from Recent’ when you see it.

Like TV shows, you may see either Remove from Recent or Remove from Recently Watched. They both achieve the same goal so choose whichever appears in your menu.

Hide recently watched Amazon Prime Videos

If you use Amazon Prime Video, you have an extra step you can take to remove recently watched titles. It involves logging into the website though. As far as I know, you cannot do this from the Firestick menu.

  1. Log into Amazon Prime Video.
  2. Select your profile icon in the top right and select Account & Settings.
  3. Select Watch History.
  4. Select the ‘X’ to the right of a title you want to remove.

This will remove the title from recently watched and it should no longer appear on your Firestick.

Stop recently watched reappearing on the Amazon Firestick

Sometimes cleared titles can reappear on your watched list even though you cleared them. This can happen a lot and has happened to me a couple of times. There is a way that might fix that, clearing the Firestick cache. It worked for me anyway so it might work for you.

This only seems to happen on non-Amazon Prime titles when cleared on the Firestick. Titles cleared from the Prime website do not seem to reappear. It’s an annoyance but not a showstopper but there may be a way to fix it.

  1. Select the Settings menu on your Firestick.
  2. Select Applications and Manage Installed Applications.
  3. Work through the list of applications clearing the cache for each.

It may appear a little random, clearing the cache for unrelated apps, but it worked for me. The only other fix I can think of is a reset and that just means more work setting everything up again.

If that doesn’t work, a couple of users have suggested performing that reset of the Firestick. This will involve setting everything up from scratch again and I wouldn’t suggest doing that unless the recently watched list really does annoy you.

Do you know of any other ways to stop those recently watched titled you cleared from reappearing without performing a device reset? Tell us below if you do as there are lots of users who would love to know!
