How To Get The Sonic Layered Armor In Monster Hunter Rise
Last Updated: December 3, 2021
Everyone’s favorite blue speedster makes a surprise appearance in the form of a Capcom collaboration with Monster Hunter Rise. Here’s how you can get the Sonic inspired layered armor for your Hunter.
Sonic the Hedgehog has been around for a very long time. With such longevity, it’s no surprise that he has cemented his place as a pop culture icon. First released in 1991, Sonic was Sega’s face of the franchise that was their answer to Nintendo’s Mario. With a recent surge in popularity thanks to a string of well received games plus a blockbuster movie with Jim Carrey, interest in Sonic is at an all time high. With that being said, let’s get right down how you can get your Hunter to look kinda like Sonic.
What You Need
The first thing you need to do is to make sure that you’re at least Hunter Rank (HR) 8 so that you have access to layered armor. Starting on November 26, 2021, you can claim the free add-on event quest called Super Shady Look-Alike from Senri the Mailman. Once you’ve claimed the quest, you can now accept it through the Quest Counter, if you’re planning on taking it solo, or the Quest Board, if you want to do it multiplayer, at the Gathering Hub under Event Quests.
Like most special event quests and Capcom Collaborations, you’ll need a specific crafting material to craft this special layered armor which you can only receive as a reward from finishing this quest.
Super Shady Look-Alike
In this quest, you are tasked by a certain “Carefree Hedgehog” with Hunting a Nargacuga at the Flooded Forest. Now, at this point, it’s pretty safe to assume that you’re at HR 8 so you’ve probably cleared a Nargacuga before. While yes it is quite easy to beat on its own, you’d save a lot of time if you took this quest by joining up online in multiplayer. When facing Nargacuga, make sure to watch out for it’s tail. It’ll also get a massive boost in speed when it’s enraged which you’ll notice once its eyes start glowing red.
Once you’ve finished the quest, you’ll get a Quest Bonus Reward called Hunter Ring. This is what you’ll need to forge the Sonic Wear special layered armor. If you’ve played any Sonic games before, you’ll know that his iconic rings are the sort of main currency that you need to collect in the game. Collection of the rings protects you from losing life when taking damage and can also be used to get extra lives, continues, and points. While it won’t protect you or grant you bonus per se in Monster Hunter Rise, it does make you look cool as heck. You’ll need 4 Hunter Rings to craft the entire set of layered armor and you’ll get anywhere from 1 to 3 every time you complete the quest.
Once you’ve collected enough material, you can just head on over to the Smithy to forge the layered armor. Remember to look under the Special tab to see all the layered armor you can forge. Now, you can dress up like Sonic the Hedgehog! It doesn’t have a waist as a part of it’s set so you can just go ahead and throw in any waist from your other pieces of layered armor.
