Secret Bases are back in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. To create a Secret Base, you’ll need something called a Digger Drill. Here’s how you can get it.

What’s a Digger Drill?

A Digger Drill is an item that is used to create a Secret Base in the Grand Underground. To use it, simply go to the Grand Underground, find a spot where you’d like your Secret Base to be located, and press the A button. You’ll primarily be using your Secret Base to display statues and use them to increase the appearance of certain types of Pokemon in the numerous caves and caverns of the Grand Underground. While Secret Bases aren’t as customizable as they used to be in the Hoenn region, they are still a pretty fun aspect of the game that lets you have your own little corner that you’re free to personalize.

Where can you get a Digger Drill?

The first time you’ll get a Digger Drill is from the Underground Man. Despite his name, he actually lives above ground in Eterna City right next to the Pokemon Center. He’ll also be giving you the Explorer Kit which you’ll need to access the Grand Underground. He’ll give it to you for free after finishing his third task which requires you to find at least one treasure.

After getting a Digger Drill from Underground Man, the only way to get a Digger Drill is to look for Sphere Traders scattered around the Grand Underground. You’ll usually find them in corners around the map and they look like Hikers so they’re pretty easy to spot.

How to use a Digger Drill?

Using Digger Drills is very easy. Just make sure you have some in your bag and find a spot where you’d like to have your Secret Base. Once there, simply press A and you’ll be prompted if you want to have your Secret Base at that location. Doing so will consume one Digger Drill.
