How To Get Heracross In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl

Bug Pokémon, in general, are often overlooked. They do have glaring weaknesses to popular types like Fire, Flying, and Rock. However, Heracross is a little different. He has excellent coverage and well rounded stats that make him a favorite among trainers whether it’s for casual or competitive play. Here’s everything you need to know to get the Single Horn Pokémon in the Sinnoh region.

First introduced in Generation II, Heracross is a Bug/Fighting type Pokémon that definitely ranks among the type’s best of the best. Although he suffers from a 4x weakness to Flying types, Heracross has enough coverage moves that make him a fan favorite in both competitive and casual battles. He is a very powerful Pokémon with access to moves like Megahorn, Earthquake, Swords Dance, and Stone Edge. He is also one of the few Pokémon that can possess the ability, Guts which when paired with a Flame Orb and the move Facade, can do absolutely devastating damage to an enemy Pokémon.

With a base stat spread of 500, it’s safe to say that Heracross is a pretty well rounded Pokémon that benefits the most when utilized as a wallbreaker. It has a pretty high Attack stat with a fairly decent Defense and Special Defense stat so you can be sure that it can take a few hits before going down.

With that said, it’s fair to say that Heracross warrants your respect and deserves a spot on your party. So how do you get this Pokémon?

How to Get a Heracross?

Catching a Heracross is pretty easy. Encountering one, however, is a whole different story. This Pokémon can only be encountered by slathering Honey on Honey Trees in specific areas. You’ll immediately notice a Honey Tree because it looks very different from the other trees as it has a distinct brown color.

Before you go on looking for Honey trees, you should know that just because you slathered Honey on them, doesn’t mean that Pokémon will automatically flock to it. There’s only a small chance of encountering Pokémon through this method. Since Heracross is considered a rare Pokémon, there’s an even slimmer chance of you encountering it on a Honey Tree. There’s only a 20% chance of a Pokémon spawning at a Honey Tree after you’ve slathered Honey. And within that 20% chance, there’s only a measly 5% chance of you encountering a Heracross. So, while catching Heracross isn’t difficult, it will surely be time consuming.

Also, keep in mind that it takes 6 hours in real time before Honey Trees take effect. You’d have to return to a Honey Tree you’ve slathered Honey on after 6 hours to check whether or not a Pokémon has spawned. All the trouble is definitely worth it though as Heracross is one of the strongest Pokémon you can have in the game.
