Gaming

Pokémon is a game that revolves around catching creatures that you use to battle with other trainers. Now for a franchise that’s been around for 25 years, things can get a little stale and repetitive if they don’t try to mix it up. So, it’s a good thing that there are Pokémon that can only be caught or encountered when you meet specific circumstances. Drifloon is one of those Pokémon and the way to encounter it is very unique. Before we go about how to catch it, let’s get to know Drifloon a little better.

Drifloon

Ever wondered what it would be like if a ghost possessed a balloon? Wonder no more as Drifloon is literally a possessed balloon. It’s dual typing of Ghost/Flying is very unique considering that it is one of only three Pokémon in the entire Pokédex that has this type. Since it is a basic Pokémon, it doesn’t offer much in terms of stats. Apart from its cute appearance and the fact that you need it to complete your Pokedex, there isn’t a lot that Drifloon can do. So, you may be asking, what makes this Pokémon special?

While on its own, it’s pretty useless. But, as often is the case with most Pokémon, its evolutions makes it a very worthwhile addition to your team. At level 28, Drifloon evolves into Drifblim. Drifblim is a solid Pokémon that fills the role of a Wall on a team. It has a pretty decent stat spread of 498 with its HP, in particular, standing out. It’s a pretty beefy Pokémon for sure. You can use it to stall opponents by spamming moves like Rest and Stockpile.

With that said, we bet you’re raring to go and get yourself a Drifloon. So how do you get one?

Catching a Drifloon

Like we’ve mentioned before, later generations of the game like to spice things up by introducing gimmicks when catching or evolving Pokémon. Catching a Drifloon is by no means difficult but it is very specific. You see, Drifloon is kind of a lazy Pokémon. So lazy that it only appears once a week! In fact, it doesn’t even appear all throughout Sinnoh. You can only catch Drifloon on a certain day in a certain area.

Drifloon can only be caught in front of the Valley Windworks every Friday. But, keep in mind, this is only possible once you’ve progressed enough in the story. You need to have defeated Team Galactic Commander Mars en route to your 2nd Badge before this encounter is possible. Unfortunately, if that day falls on a Friday, you will have to wait until the next week before you can start encountering a Drifloon.

Waiting an entire week just to catch a Pokémon that isn’t even that strong? What a drag! Don’t worry, there’s still a way to catch this Pokémon even if it isn’t Friday in real time. If you’re willing to bend the rules a little bit, you can just fire up your switch, head to the settings, and change the date and time to a friday. This way, the game will think that it is friday and you’ll encounter a Drifloon waiting for you at the Valley Windworks.

So there you have it! That’s everything you need to know about how you can get a Drifloon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Be sure to check back with us again for more awesome guides on your favorite games. Have fun!
