Electivire

Generation IV introduced a bunch of new evolutions for certain Pokemon that definitely made them more interesting and powerful. One of the best additions to Pokemon’s ever expanding roster was Electivire. Before Gen IV, an Elekid could only evolve into an Electabuzz at Lv. 30. Now, things have changed and a new form was added. Needless to say, Electivire was an instant favorite among fans mostly because of his cool design and his solid stats.

Boasting a stat spread of 540, this pure Electric type Pokemon packs a punch and can be a worthy addition to any team looking for decent coverage. Electivire has excellent Attack, great Special Attack, and very high Speed making it perfect as a wallbreaker that can decimate your opponent’s team.

With that said, it’s fair to say that Electivire warrants your respect and deserves a spot on your party. So how do you get this Pokemon?

How to get an Electivire?

First things first, Electivire’s base form, Elekid, is a Brilliant Diamond exclusive. So for all Shining Pearl players out there, you can only obtain this Pokemon through a trade. The actual first things you need to do to get an Electivire is to catch an Elekid and obtain an Electirizer. With that out of the way, let’s get into it.

Elekid can be caught as a rare spawn in certain Pokemon caverns and hideaways in the Grand Underground. Here are the specific places in the Grand Underground you can encounter an Elekid on:

  • Dazzling Cave
  • Whiteout Cave
  • Stargleam Cavern
  • Glacial Cavern

Since Elekid is a rare spawn, there’s only a 15% chance of you encountering it in any of these caves and caverns except the Glacial Cavern where it only has a 10% chance of appearing. A good thing to keep in mind is that the Pokemon inside these hideaways always change whenever you enter and exit them so you can keep doing this until you encounter an Elekid. Now to get an Electirizer, you just have to do the same thing. Some Elekids will carry an Electirizer with them but there’s only a 5% chance of this happening. It can take a lot of work, but this is the only way to get an Electirizer.

So once you’ve obtained an Elekid and an Electirizer, the next thing you have to do is to evolve your Elekid into an Electabuzz. It will evolve into Electabuzz at Lv. 30. Since Experience Share is an automatic feature in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you can just have Elekid in your party and keep battling other trainers to soak up EXP.

Now that you have an Electabuzz, we can finally have it evolved. This is the part where you won’t be able to complete solo as it requires another player. To evolve your Electabuzz into an Electivire, you need to trade it while holding an Electirizer. This is the only way to get an Electivire. It doesn’t matter if you level up your Electabuzz from Lv. 30 or not, as long as you trade it while holding an Electirizer, it will evolve into an Electivire.

Useful Tips

  1. One of the most controversial things about these Gen IV remakes is the abysmal catch rate of wild Pokemon found in the Grand Underground. While yes, it is true that it’s harder to catch Pokemon in this area, you can drastically increase your chances by using some of the specialized balls. We strongly recommend that you use Quick Balls and Dusk Balls to catch Pokemon in the Grand Underground.
  1. You can display statues of Electric type Pokemon in your Secret Base to increase the appearance rate of Pokemon of this type.
  1. If you’ve managed to catch an Elekid but have no Electirizer and you no longer wish to keep catching Elekids, you can make use of the move Thief. Thief is a TM that you can find in one of Team Galactic’s hideouts. Use this move on wild Elekids and eventually, you’ll get yourself an Electirizer.
