How to create a one-time password on LastPass

If you worry about using LastPass on a shared or public device, you can use one-time passwords (OTPs) for your account. With the help of this feature, you can sign in to your account for one session using a different password.

You can generate one-time passwords from the LastPass website. Here’s a tutorial to help you generate a few OTPs for your account.

On your computer:

  1. Open the LastPass website on your favorite browser and sign in to your account.
  2. Click Advanced Options on the sidebar.

  3. Click the “Manage one-time passwords” under the Improve Your Security section.

  4. Enter your master password on the pop-up window and click OK.

  5. Click the “Generate a one-time password” and re-enter your LastPass sign in credentials.

  6. Copy the generated OTP and save it somewhere safe.

That’s how you generate one-time passwords on LastPass. You can use the temporary password to sign in to the app from the LastPass OTP login page.

Once you use an OTP, you can’t use it again to sign in to your account. Signing in using one-time passwords only lasts for one session on a browser.

If you ran out of OTPs, you can always generate new ones on the LastPass website. However, please note that resetting your password deletes all saved one-time passwords for your account. With that in mind, there’s also an option to clear all your saved OTPs for your account.
