How To Enable Right-to-left Text In Gmail
Last Updated: November 11, 2021
Sometimes some specific scripts and languages are most appropriately written from right to left. However, not all applications offer a kind of feature that could cater to that.
Gmail
Fortunately, Gmail does! No wonder it’s widely used globally, given that it caters to your needs and preferences readily.
1. Visit Gmail on your browser then sign in using your account.
Navigate to the Gmail website, then log in using your Google credentials.
2. Click the gear icon on the top-right side of the screen.
You must click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the Gmail screen display. This will present a drop-down menu with various editing options.

3. Select “See all settings” from the drop-down menu.
Gmail will show only the basic settings from the drop-down menu, so select “See all settings,” and a new window display will appear on your screen.

4. Choose the General tab then look for the “Language” section.
This window has several tabs, one of which must be “General.” Go to the “Language” section under this tab to see the options for enabling right-to-left editing support.

5. Enable the right-to-left editing support.
Tap on the circle next to the option “right-to-left editing support on.” You should notice that the circle next to that label has now been filled.

6. Click “Save Changes” to apply the modification made.
After completing all the preceding steps, all left for you is to save all the changes made. You can accomplish this by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking the “Save Changes” button.

7. Click the “Compose” button then a new pop-up window will appear.
To verify whether you’ve successfully enabled this feature, try composing an email by clicking the “Compose” button at the top of the left panel; a new pop-up window should appear where you can type your message.

8. Select the letter icon or the “Formatting options” button.
You will see various options at the bottom of the new window, but you must click the letter icon labeled “Formatting options” to bring up a new toolbar.

9. Click the drop-down arrow in the toolbar.
On the right-most side of the toolbar, you will see a drop-down arrow which you must click, and a vertically-displayed toolbar will be shown.

10. Select the third option from the top labeled as “Right to left.”
Select “Right to left” from the new toolbar, the third option from the top. If you want a shortcut, press “Ctrl+shift-.” on your keyboard, and you will have the same result. You will notice that you can type from right to left, which is not the usual or default motion.

Finishing Thoughts
Being offered a wide variety of options where you can choose from based on your preferences is really something to look forward to in an app, especially if it’s something that you’ll have to use regularly. This is why Gmail is internationally known because it offers convenience and can also satisfy one’s needs.
