How to edit posts you shared on Instagram
If you forget to add detail to a post you shared on Instagram, you can edit it to make changes. In this way, you don’t need to delete and re-upload the post on your account.
You can edit a post, whether you’re using the Instagram web or mobile app. Follow our tutorials below, and we’ll show you how to edit your posts from both app versions.
On your phone:
- Open the Instagram app from your home screen or app drawer and sign in to your account.
- Go to your profile page and open the post you want to edit.
- Tap More options (three dots icon) on the top right side of the post.
- On the menu that appears, select the “Edit” option.
- Edit the post and the check icon on the top right to apply the changes.
When editing a post, you can change the caption, tag more people, add a location, and choose an alt text. If you changed the caption, the word “Edited” may appear below it on the post.
On your computer:
- Visit the Instagram web app and sign in to your account.
- Click the Profile option on the sidebar.
- Open one of the posts you shared and select More options (three horizontal dots) on the top right.
- On the menu that appears, select “Edit.”
- Make changes to the post and click Done to save the changes.
That’s how you edit posts on Instagram. If you don’t want some of your posts to appear on your profile, you can archive or delete them instead.
