How To Edit A Post On Slack
Last Updated: November 22, 2021
Do you want to make some changes to a post you previously shared on Slack? Or do you want to collaborate with one of your workmates and edit the post they created? Either way, you can do it on the Slack desktop or web app. Follow our quick guide below, and we’ll teach you the things you need to know.
In Slack, you can create posts to share long-term content such as notes, plans, and projects with your fellow workspace members. You can create one for yourself or allow other users to view and edit it.
If you ever need to add more content to your post, you can edit it any time you want. You can also help and collaborate with other users who created their own posts if you have permission to do so.
With that in mind, here’s our guide about editing posts on Slack.
How to edit one of your posts on Slack
If you want to add more content or make some changes to a post on Slack, you can edit it whenever you want, as long as you have permission to do so. You’ll find all your posts using the File Browser feature on your workspace.
In our quick tutorial below, we’ll show you how to find and edit posts on Slack. Please note that you can only edit or create posts on the Slack desktop or web app.
- Open the Slack desktop or web app and sign in to your workspace.
- Click More (three dots icon) on the left sidebar and select File Browser on the menu.
- Browse the files uploaded on the workspace and select the post that you want to edit. You can use the filters and search feature if you’re having trouble finding the one you want to manage.
- Make some changes to the post and close the window once you finish. Slack automatically saves the content updates for you.
If you’re not the one who created the post, click the Edit button first. After editing, click the Done Editing option to confirm your decision.
That’s how you edit a post on Slack. After opening the post window, you can share it with a conversation and allow other users to edit it.
Unfortunately, you can’t edit posts on the Slack mobile app. You can only use it to view existing posts on your workspace. As such, you’ll need to open the app on your computer to make some changes to your posts.
To wrap things up
Now that you know how to edit posts on Slack, you can update the ones you previously created for yourself or for public use. If other users give you permission, you can also help them edit the posts they shared on a conversation or channel.
Always remember that only one person can edit a post at a time. As such, you’ll need to take turns in updating a shared post in your workspace.
