When someone shares an album or photo with you on Google Photos, you can access and view them whenever you want. If you want to have a copy on your phone or desktop, you can download the item to save it on your device.

How to download an image on Google Photos

If you have a picture on Google Photos that you want to save on your device, you can download it whenever you want. As long as you have access to a photo on your account, you can download it on any device where you have Google Photos.

You can download images and media files from Google Photos whether you’re on your phone or computer. We’ll cover the steps to do so for both devices in our tutorial below.

On your phone:

  1. Open the Google Photos app from your home screen or app drawer and sign in to your account.
  2. Open the photo that you want to save on your device and tap More options (three dots icon) on the top right.

  3. Once the menu appears, select the Download option.

After downloading a media file from Google Photos, you can now see the image or video on your phone’s Gallery app. As such, you can share these photos on the messaging and social media apps you use daily.

If you open an image or video that you have on your device, you won’t see the Download option.

On your computer:

  1. Visit Google Photos on your favorite browser and sign in to your account.
  2. Open the image or photo that you want to download and click More options (three dots icon) on the top right.

  3. Click the Download option on the menu that appears.

That’s how you download media on Google Photos. You can select multiple items and download them at once.
