How To Download Files From Discord

People mainly use Discord for video or voice calls, chat, and stream. But you can also share some files through either the desktop or web browser app. There is a restriction though; your file can’t be must be under 8 Mb. Otherwise, you won’t be able to share them. 

For images, this is perfectly fine, but you may have a problem with videos. Therefore, if you want to share an awesome kill, you are better off uploading it to a cloud and sharing it in the chat room. 

So let’s see how you can download files that other people send you; it is very simple as you will see.

Step 1:

After someone sends you a file, it will appear in the chat room as a normal message.

Step 2:

But if you found it hilarious, and you want to download it, hit right click on the image and then click on save image as.

Step 3:

Once done, you can choose where you want to download the image and change its name as you please. It goes without saying that you can use it as you please afterward.  

Step 4:

If your friends send you a video, it will look like the following picture. You can play it by just clicking on the highlighted icon. 

Step 5:

If you want to expand the video to see it better, you can do so by clicking on the box at the bottom right corner of the video.

To download it, you can repeat steps 2 and 3. Alternatively, you can click on the downside arrow at the top left corner. Beware, it will download the video with a generic name, in a generic folder. Therefore, if you want to save it under a specific name, and find it quick, it is recommended for you to download it as you would do with a normal image. 

Step 7:

But what if my video has more than 8 Mb? Well, you just need to upload it to either google drive, Dropbox, or other cloud service and share the link. It is not ideal, but something is better than nothing. 

Note: To download any other type of files such as .doc documents or .txt files, just do the same things explained in steps 3 and 4.

That is all, as you can see, it is very easy to share images and videos throughout Discord. Bear in mind that this is not its main utility. Therefore, you could won’t be able to upload very large files. But for basic memes or image sharing, you won’t have a problem.

Quick advice, it is better to download the files in a specific folder and with a specific name. Use steps 3 and 4 for this, either if it is a video or an image, or any other type of document. This way you won’t waste a bunch of time trying to find it later in the day.
