How To Download A TikTok Video On Your IPhone

Despite initially being viewed with suspicion when it first took over from Music.ly, the Chinese app TikTok has taken over the world. Well, if you’re under 25 at least. It has over a billion users across the world and is one of the liveliest social networks on the planet right now. Videos are fleeting and usually disappear from our minds less than a minute from watching them. For those that stick in your mind, you may want to keep a copy for yourself. This tutorial will show you how to download a TikTok video on your iPhone so you can do just that.

Social Media

Social networks are momentary by their very nature. There is too much going on too quickly to take your time and once something has been uploaded for longer than an hour or two, it’s old news. However, there are times when a video is so good that you want to keep it for yourself. There are also times when you have created your own video and either want to do some editing or share it elsewhere.

It is those times when you might need to download a TikTok video to your iPhone.

Download your own TikTok videos to iPhone

If you’re particularly proud of a video you created or want to use more powerful editing tools to add effects or polish the video, you can do that. You can download it to your iPhone and either use an app there or copy it across to a computer. TikTok’s editing tools are pretty good but there are many much more powerful editing tools out there.

To download your own video, do this:

  1. Open TikTok and select the video you want to download.
  2. Play the video and select the Share icon to the right.
  3. Select Save Video.

Once downloaded, you will find the video in the Camera Roll. Your iPhone may also automatically create an album called TikTok. Mine didn’t but others I asked about this said theirs did.

Download other TikTok videos to your iPhone

Android users have specific apps that can download videos from social networks to their phone. The iPhone doesn’t have that luxury as Apple doesn’t usually permit such apps to appear on the App Store. There are three workarounds though. One involves using a file manager app that should allow access to videos. The other involves using Instagram and will require you have an Instagram account for it to work. The third involves using a video downloader website.

I had success with two file manager apps, Documents by Readdle and Total Files. As I still have Total Files on my phone, let’s use that in this example.

  1. Download and install Total Files onto your iPhone.
  2. Open TikTok and select the video you want to download.
  3. Play the video and select the Share icon to the right.
  4. Select Copy Link.
  5. Switch to Total Files and select the globe icon to access the internet.
  6. Paste the URL into the bar and select Go.
  7. Select the video to begin playing and select it again to access the menu.
  8. Select Yes to ‘Do you want to download this content’.

This should then download the video onto your phone.

The second way uses the link between TikTok and Instagram to work. Essentially what we do is share the video from TikTok to an Instagram Story and download it from there.

  1. Open TikTok and select the video you want to download.
  2. Play the video and select the Share icon to the right.
  3. Select the Instagram icon and wait for it to load in Instagram.
  4. Select the download icon in the top of the Stories screen.

You should see the video appear in the Camera Roll and you can play edit or do whatever you like from there.

The final way to download TikTok videos is to use a video downloader website. This is a little more difficult to use as TikTok seems to be fighting against these websites to block access to their videos. I tend to recommend Savefrom.net as it works on most social networks and does work (at the time of writing anyway) on TikTok.

All of these methods should download TikTok videos on your iPhone. The process can be a little convoluted but with a little creativity and perseverance, you can get the job done.
