How To Disable Read Receipts On Signal

When you read a message on Signal, read receipts appear at the bottom of the message indicating that you’ve read it. In this way, your contact can know when you’ve seen the latest message on the chat.

By default, read receipts are enabled on your account on Signal. When both you and your contact use the feature, you can see the icons at the bottom of the message when someone reads them.

How to turn off read receipts on Signal

If you don’t want other people to know that you’ve read a message on Signal, you can turn off read receipts on your account. In this way, they won’t see the blue checks or indicators when you read the latest messages on the chat.

You can turn off read receipts on the Signal mobile app. We’ll cover the steps you need to know in our quick tutorial below.

1. Open Signal from your home screen or app drawer and sign in to your account.
2. Tap your icon on the top of the chats list to open your profile. Alternatively, you can tap the three dots icon and select “Settings” from the menu.
   
   
3. Go to your Privacy Settings.
   
   
4. Toggle “Read receipts” under the Messaging section.
   
   

That’s how you turn off read receipts on the Signal mobile app. After turning this feature off, you won’t be able to see read receipts of other users as well.

Although you can view your Privacy Settings on the Signal desktop app, you can only toggle read receipts on the mobile app. So if you want to manage your privacy settings, open the app on your phone.

You can also turn off typing indicators on your Signal account. When you disable this feature, no one can see when you’re currently typing on a conversation. However, you won’t be able to view when someone is typing within a chat as well.
