How To Disable Huddles On Slack
Last Updated: September 6, 2022
Do you want to disable the huddle feature on some of your channels or direct message on Slack? Do you want to keep the conversation solely for messaging between the members? If that’s the case, you can disable the huddle feature on the channel as the owner or admin of the workspace.
Tutorial
Huddles on Slack allow users to start quick discussions on channels and direct messages on the workspace. Members can also invite more people to the huddle and share their screens to work with their team.
By default, every member of a direct message or channel on Slack can start huddles whenever they want. However, admins and workspace owners can disable this feature on specific channels within the workspace.
Here’s our guide about turning off huddles on Slack.
How to disable huddles on some of your channels on Slack
If you don’t want workspace members to use huddles on some of your channels, you can disable it from the channel settings. In this way, people can know that the channel isn’t for quick meetings in your workspace.
You can disable huddles from a channel on the Slack desktop or web app. Follow our quick tutorial below, and we’ll teach you how to do so.
On your computer:
- Launch the Slack desktop app or visit their web client and sign in to your account.
- Go to the channel you want to manage and click its name on the conversation header.
- Head to the Settings tab on the windows that appears on your screen.
- Click the Edit option on the Huddles section.
- Select the “No, members can’t start or join huddles” option and click Save to confirm your decision.
After saving your settings, users won’t find the huddle option when they open the channel. If you ever change your mind, you can always update your channel settings and enable huddles for everyone on the chat.
Unfortunately, you can’t change your huddle settings from the Slack mobile app. You’ll need to visit the web app on your browser to disable huddles for your channels.
Please note that only workspace owners and admins can turn off huddles from specific channels. Regular members won’t be able to change these preferences on the conversation settings.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to turn off huddles on Slack, you can now disable the feature on some of the channels and direct messages on your workspace. Always remember that only admins and workspace owners have permission to disable huddles on the app.
